Apparently Lebron is the first guy to even have an Olympic Triple Double. Apparently assists weren't kept as stats till the 1976. However, it just seems hard to believe in 36 years or 10 Olympics there hasn't been anyone else to get one.
assists are harder to get in FIBA. you'd get 20 NBA assists before FIBA registers 10. All in 40 minutes max. And LeBron did it in 30. It's incredible.
and frankly, there were so many incredible passes that didn't end up in assist in that game. LeBron is really being his most amazing in this setting. you could just watch him alone all game last night, and it would still be an awesome basketball experience.
Alex Belov had the first triple double in Olympic history in 1976. Lebron had the first in US team history. http://archive.fiba.com/pages/eng/f...ympic_Games_Tournament_for_Men/statistic.html

No media hype, no overrated customized stats. "Steve Francis, only pg to average 19.9 ,6 and 6, since Magic! Zomg!!!"
OT, but in the Wilt Chamberlain and Oscar Robertson threads I brought this up, the way international basketball leagues award assists is pretty much like how the NBA used to award assists up until the 1980s. Like the FIBA, the NBA rarely had players who averaged 8-10 assists per game, because it was conservatively managed and followed this idea of an assists. THE FIBA manual states: An assist is charged when a pass is made to a teammate who shoots and scores - provided the shooter's immediate intention, upon receiving the ball, was to shoot and that intention was maintained until the shot was taken. [...] A pass to a player in a good scoring position, who considers other options before deciding to shoot and score, is not an assist. The score is the result of the action by the shooter alone, not the passer. An assist is awarded when the shooter creates the final play for the shot. [...] The distance of the shot, the type of shot and the ease with which the shooter makes the shot are not factors when considering if a pass is an assist. Similarly, the number of dribbles taken by the player who scores is also not a factor, unless his efforts are such that you determine that he did the work to make the basket, rather than the pass. A pass to a player at half court who dribbles directly to the basket for a successful layup is an assist. However, if that player has to divert to dribble around a defensive player, no assist is given.
Yeah, once I blocked a girl 10 times . Let me know when the US does something inspiring in basketball, you know, like winning bronze with Brad Miller and a bunch of minor league players. Thanks Rudy.
You are exaggerating. But I hear you. I really don't have much interest in Olympic basketball. It's like watching a college team playing junior highers, and the men still need motivation to pump themselves up to beat the kids.
Yet, the act of a triple double hasn't happen in US Olympic history? Seems weird doesn't it? I agree it's a bit ho-hum, but surprising it hasn't happened until now.
A true, rare unselfish superstar who is also a good father and a great role model. LeBron is the best passer in the NBA.
Go back in time 10 years. Bet Jordan he couldn't get a triple double in the Olympics. He'd probably average one...
Yea in theL they'll give the assisted scorer 2-3 steps and give an assist, to guys, such as, Rrrrrrooonnndo, LBJ, Wade, Paul, these guys might even have assists where the guy dribbled since just past half court, and get an assist. I think it's two steps, or one jump stop, and that is the end of a chance for an assist, not in the case of such a play where LBJ passes to wade then wade dribbles takes two steps and does a jump stop move to move away from defenders, and doing his little left hand layup reverse, and what not, that is not an assist. He gets that in the L all the time.
Yea bc they were focused on D as well...Oh and MJ in the 1984 Olympics led the team in scoring with 17.1ppg and 4asst pg ...so he was young looking for his 92 assist total...LBJ is the guy that wants to do that...doesn't make him better. I know that's not what we are talking about, I just regress on that this team isn't as great as the 92 team...sorry I regress...cool stat though "for him"
