The way the league is going right now Morey should be given the green light to take a chance on Asik. When you see all these decent centers (Roy Hibbert possibly?) averaging 13/8 getting near max or max money. It's not too far fetched to think Asik is worth at least 8 million for defensive purposes. We didn't sign him to become a 20pt/10reb center, we took the chance on him to give us a chance to actually rebound late in games and block shots, something outside of getting Dalembert and Camby last year, we were missing since Yao hadn't been playing regularly. 2009?

Jeff Green should be #1. And Landry Fields #2. Those two just jump out at you; dumbest decisions this offseason with amnestying Scola getting honorable mention.

Hell if Asik comes in and averages 8 and 9 he will fit right in with the rest of the centers making above average pay for below average production.

Throw in his defensive presence, and you have about 8 million reasons why he gets paid what he does.

Morey says that if Asik had been unrestricted, he'd have gotten more money on the market. I believe Morey in this regards. Asik probably would've gotten $10+mil/yr in a fully free market. But teams didn't take into regards the Bulls miserly ways and the lopsided contract structure which lowered his value.

So in that sense, Lin might be more overpaid. Because I do believe he was signed at closer to his market value than Asik. A top defensive center, regardless of his offensive limitations, is worth a lot of money.

DeAndre Jordan is paid more than Omer Asik.

DeAndre Jordan is worse at rebounding and defense and around equal on offense.

DeAndre Jordan looks cool. Omer Asik looks like a scrub.

DeAndre Jordan has "potential." Omer Asik is overpaid.

    bottomline...
if he's better than Sammy D - then his contract is fine to great.... anyone who thinks otherwise, hasn't priced out centers on non rookie scale contracts.... Sam was considered a bargain rate at 7M....

Didn't Charles Barkley say that if you put DeAndre in a gym turn the lights off and tell him that he can only score the ball without dunking and he has all night to do it. When you come back in the morning DeAndre will only have like 4 points.

It's not dumb logic. Some players flourish in certain systems. Tyson Chandler won't make any team GREAT *hello ny knicks* but he was the missing piece to the mavs championship. Having said that, like someone said earlier all big men are overpaid, and at least we have one that has a proven skill that will impact the game. Put asik next to a scoring pf and around good players and he's well worth 8 mil....

Bye the way I think you guys are more obsessed with morey than the rockets. I'm not mad at the asik signing at all but good god give it a break. I think morey could sign and unknown player to the max and you guys could come up with 21 reason why he's doing the right thin...

I remember him saying it. I also remember him saying how since DeAndre does nothing the least he could do is defend Griffin when he is getting pounded on by opposing bigs. CP3 is getting in the guys face and Jordan is just standing around. Kid needs to do something beside dunk the ball, might as well defend his teammate.

    Yeah he said that.

He just looks cool so people ignore that he was benched for Reggie Evans constantly in the 4th quarter even though he is being paid 11 million a year.

What else is a publication going to say, based on his career averages Asik is over-payed! This is news worthy, because in reality, the Rockets are paying a 14 minute guy 8 million dollars per season.

If Asik was going to play 16 minutes for the Rockets and collect 1 million dollars per every 2 minutes of average game time for a season, I'd agree.

But the Rockets are most definitely anticipating that Asik will play 28 to 32 minutes a game. And that is 30 minutes a game where every shot will be contested at the Rim. If Asik performs as expected by the Rockets, and lives up to the high expectation that the Bulls had of him, this time next year Asik will be a top 10 bargain in the NBA. The Bulls demand for Asik in any trade demand reflected the high expectation a lot of NBA GM have of this underused NBA center.

Talk about crazy, if the Bulls would have matched the Rockets offer sheet, he'd of cost them 40 million dollars. The Rockets are only paying 27 million dollars over 3 years - (I know in real world that's insane, but NBA world is different ). All things being equal, and the Bulls would have matched the 27 million dollar contract, but with the rules, they'd be on the hook for umpteenth million dollars more!

Tyson is way overpaid as a Knick(14M), yet they overpay for everyone(except for Jlin hahaha).

In London, Tyson is being outplayed by Love, and is getting scored on a regular basis. I thought he was some kind of defensive stopper, maybe it's the international game...

Spot on, Rockets aren't paying Asik to average 3 and 5, they're paying him to average 7 and 12. Looking at his per game numbers is the kind of shoddy analysis you're expect from a chron.com commenter, not a guy being paid to write about the NBA.

They call ticky-tack stuff in International play. Most of the US Players were in foul trouble, they are just so deep, it doesnt matter

Tyson Chandler is more proven than Lin

Centers are worth more if they can talk and chew gum in this era of the NBA, than PG's

PG's are so easy to find now, its not even funny
