I think Asik's real value is in what he does for everyone else. Patterson and DMo don't have to worry about being the cornerstone of our defense, which frees them up to do other things.

In response to the statement about his offensive game yes this is where he struggles. But there is a lot more to offense than shooting 3's. Morey described it well on the radio, Asik sets good screens which contributes to the offense, he grabs offensive rebounds and he can dunk the ball which is a high percentage offensive move. Lol. He does struggle from the FT line but he is only 26 and this is his first time at starter minutes so he can improve that aspect of his game. Rose said that he is one of the hardest working guys on the Bulls team and that says a lot coming from a gym rat like Rose.

If anything Lin's contract is riskier. Neither is going to doom our franchise though.

Lins isn't risky either. It is the average salary for a starting pg.

Joe Johnson is not the most overpaid player in the league.

Another thing to throw about Asik is that he one of the best (if not the best) at defending the pick and roll (the staple play of basically all NBA offenses) in the entire league. It seems like we struggled there the last couple years.

You have no evidence of the 'risk.'

I would add that he doesn't have a big defensive weakness so it makes it tougher for an offense to exploit.

Would have to agree; still doesn't look like a great move, but it could work out. Especially if he can make some improvements offensively. The Bulls didn't need him to score, we will.

Asik is NOT getting paid $8.3m next season.

He's $5m per the next 2 years. Then they can have their shot at him when he's getting paid $15m in the third year!

[yes, I know how the cap hit works]

I completely disagree with that. On Lin's behalf, he has the potential to be a really good starting point guard with high production and possible all-star status. Asik is a much bigger risk, he's never started before and is going to be the main big man in the lineup. Centers do come with premium, but Asik has a much better chance of falling into the "marginal starter" category.

Remember, both players are making about the same amount of money, while Lin provides a greater on the court production and off-the court attractions that Asik doesn't (or will ever) have.

Moreover, Lin's deal isn't even all that bad for a starting point guard.

He's not anymore. Brook Lopez is now.

    1. Joe Johnson – Brooklyn Nets (DEFINITELY, UNQUESTIONABLE #1)
    2. Kobe Bryant – Los Angeles Lakers (very much debatable, name recognition, production, and off-the court value)
    3. Emeka Okafor – Washington Wizards (agreed)
    4. Carlos Boozer – Chicago Bulls (agree, could almost be higher)
    5. Hedo Turkoglu – Orlando Magic (agreed, the one everyone is trying to avoid or get rid of)
    6. Brook Lopez – Brooklyn Nets (Agreed)
    7. David Lee – Golden State Warriors (Sort of, but not an awful contract for his poduction)
    8. Ben Gordon – Charlotte Bobcats (agreed)
    9. Jeff Green (year-by-year breakdown undisclosed) – Boston Celtics (somewhat)
    10. Amar’e Stoudemire – New York Knicks (It depends...)
    11. Rudy Gay – Memphis Grizzlies (Agree, but not horrendously overpaid)
    12. Richard Jefferson – Golden State Warriors (agree)
    13. Gerald Wallace – Brooklyn Nets (Deal is too long, but 7 to 9 million is fair deal, if he continues to produce at a high level)
    14. Omer Asik (year-by-year breakdown undisclosed) – Chicago Bulls (somewhat)
    15. Anderson Varejao – Cleveland Cavaliers (agreed)
    16. Pau Gasol – Los Angeles Lakers (Agreed, could be higher on the list)
    17. Tyrus Thomas – Charlotte Bobcats (SMH!!!)
    18. Kris Humphries – Brooklyn Nets (Pretty much)
    19. George Hill (year-by-year breakdown undisclosed) – Indiana Pacers (Yep)
    20. Andrei Kirilenko – Minnesota Timberwolves
    21. Andris Biedrins – Golden State Warriors (Yep)
    22. John Salmons – Sacramento Kings (definitely)
    23. Kendrick Perkins – Oklahoma City Thunder (sort of, but not grossly overpaid)
    24. Landry Fields (year-by-year breakdown undisclosed) – Toronto Raptors (Questionable, he's not making that much)
    25. Stephen Jackson – San Antonio Spurs (Under the old CBA, it wasn't necessarily, but under the newer one ... yeah)

    Snubs...
Nene - Should've been on that list somewhere.
Zach Randolph - if he is in decline . . . jury is still out.
Al Jefferson - A bit over paid, though he's a fairly good big
Marvin Williams - Under the old and new CBA agreement, he's overpaid...we can thank Atlanta yet again.
"Big Baby" Glenn Davis - A little bit
Ryan Anderson - Good player, but I thought he was an overachiever
    Luke Walton - Mmmhmmm

    Next year: $21,466,718
    2013-2014: $23,180,790
    2014-2015:$24,894,863

That's Kobe money for a player who is not even half the player Kobe is. Hell, this is more than Dwight Howard, Carmelo Anthony, Kevin Love, Chris Paul, Deron Williams, and Dirk Nowitzki.
