Was watching one of the US team's pre-Olympics exhibition games and got to thinking about other USA big's that coulda/shoulda been called in after Griffin went down injured. Greg Monroe came to mind as a good option.

Keep in mind, I have no real beef with the Anthony Davis selection and the U.S. for the most part are purring on all cylinders so Coach K/Colangelo's selection was fine and dandy.

My question is this. What the heck did Greg Monroe do or not do to not even get a mention or look by USA Basketball? Ideally I'd be talking about for the full or main Olympic team but while looking up Greg Monroe and USA basketball, I found out he wasn't even called in for the select team!

This is the same select team that had

Dejuan Blair and Lance Thomas called in. (Blair is less of a surprise than Thomas).
Cousins, Favors were the other bigs.

This is also the same select team that called in Stiemsma before he backed out of playing because of Plantar fasciitis ( I think).

So my question is what the heck did Greg Monroe do or not do to not even warrant a serious look by Colangelo and the USA selection crew?

Here are some links to Monroe's thoughts on the issue

Lance Thomas played for Coach K, so there is that.

I thought this guy was going to be an all-star when he got drafted. He was big and had skills. He should have got an invitation at least.

Just a matter of time. His offensive skills could make him a reliable allstar to build around...He already is top 5 imo.

it's a head scratcher. he should be in the final roster, not just selection process.

 maybe impeccable is too strong a word.
but he's not going to slap a teammate or choke a coach, Cousins might.

For some reason I could see Melo on TNT in the future with an extra 30 pounds or so.
