http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/b...tlanta-hawks-coaching-staff-article-1.1129787 Part of the Lin purge?
The Knicks screwed him around I'm surprised he didn't leave earlier, maybe Lin was the only one keeping him there Anyway cue the media storm as John Jenkins (Atlanta's 6'4 guard prospect) explodes and creates Jenkredible history thanks to Atkinson
He is an amazing player development coach. He was a huge reason for Carl Landry's rapid rise , luis scolad and Aaron brooks. I imagine he did the same thing with Lin in New york. He had very unique drills and knew how to develop players and build their confidence. Kenny is going to be a stud head coach one day. He was a huge under the radar loss for the Rockets a couple years ago. The players respected him and worked well with him.
He would have been fired along with all the assistants under MDA, but he was Lin's coach. (He was the only one not fired.) I imagine he was only sticking around for Lin's sake. His basketball philosophy doesn't seem to mesh with Woodson's iso style, and it's not like the Knicks have any coachable players left, except Shump.
I read that they tried already, no? "Coincidentally, the Rockets gave Atkinson his first coaching job and the organization has tried on several occasions to re-hire him." Also, Jeremy Lin has always given Kenny Atkinson credit during post game interviews. So I do believe Atkinson has a lot to do with Lin's development.
If they did try and get him back like it says above then that tells you all you need to know. The guy is truly amazing
Morey needs to up the ante then. If Atkinson is on the level of Thibodeau then whatever guarantees Morey gave Finch have to be offered to Atkinson as well. Let the best man win. Houston needs to mine these gems in the coaching staff as much as they do with their 2nd round picks.
I was also thinking that he may have felt that his usefulness has expired. The only player left to develop in the Knicks is Iman Shumpert. That's just my feeling of course. The Rockets, on the other hand, could use his expertise with all these young players with unmined, unlocked potential. It would be nice to have him as player development coach.
