You're really digging yourself into a Texas-sized hole here. I BEG you to just do a few google searches before posting in this thread again. Autism is much much different than mental r****dation. We're not saying that autistic kids are 'better' than mentally retarted kids, but they are separate conditions with separate symptoms altogether. As a matter of fact, children with autism can very often times be VERY bright and extraordinarily intelligent people. And even if you were right (you're not) and they were the same thing, why do you feel the need to take it upon yourself to defiantly insist over and over that they are all mentally retarted? It can also be the case that mental r****dation coincides with autism in a child, but often times this is not the case.
Indeed. Not majority of people maybe, but the public doesn't know too much of Aspergers and Autism, patients get labelled as mentally disabled far too often.
Easily. Majority of people are too stubborn and mentally lazy to recognize the difference. Aceshigh is the prime example of that. It's not that he's a terrible person or means to offend. Just he (like many people in the general public) are too "caught up in life" for lack of a better term to deem the difference between r****ded and autism worth FACTUALLY knowing. Instead, they see only the middle of the vin diagram and clump it all under one category. Only problem with Aceshigh now is he's beating a dead cow claiming it's a horse. (refusing to learn) Just like there's a great deal of the general public who still believe that smoking joints will cause lung cancer. They don't know better nor believe it's worth updating their brains filing cabinet so they lump weed smoking with cigarettes. I'd say it'd be a safe bet that Aceshigh doesn't have a close relative or friend who's dealt with mental r****dation or autism.
Go to hell, you ignornant a-hole. Walk up to the father of an Autistic child and say that. Some kids with Autism do have mental r****dation but most of them don't. What individuals with Autism don't need is judgemental people like you spouting of your ignorant views on something you don't know a damn thing about.
Do you really expect people to take you serious after this ignorant statement? At least spend a few minutes in wiki, before passing judgement.
Except for distastefully using the "R" word, I think you've hit the nail on the head... and that is why this video and her story is so powerful: her intelligence is remarkable given her limited educational opportunities. She is a story-teller and expresses all kinds of complex ideas and feelings and we never would have expected it...
Ok then I apologize for using the word and change it to "mentally challenged" if you like it more. Don't overblow one word please, was just tryin to explain the situation and make a case for people with Aspergers or other forms of Autism.
My son is autistic. Actually is diagnosed with mild autism. There's nothing to hide or be ashamed of. I love him and proud of him just like any father would be for their son. Sure, I'll be honest in that it's disappointing at times he doesn't act, talk, comprehend or is into sports like a normal 8-year old boy (his speech is the level of a 3-year old). But, I'm THE luckiest guy in the world and absolutely blessed to have him as a son. He ALWAYS has a smile on his face and nothing ever bothers him. He has more social and communication skills than a full on autistic person, but is still every bit as smart. I'm not going to lie, Aceshigh7's comments struck a nerve. But, it's not because he claims autism and mental r****dation are the same. That's just ignorant as hell. Besides, getting upset over that would "look down" on those who have mental r****dation as if autism is better. What ticks me off is the fact he thinks me, as a father, (and even his speech therapists, counselors and doctors) is too naive and/or stupid to not know the difference and claim I would label my son something just to make me feel better about it. Other's have already recommended to Aceshigh7 that he read up on the subject. But, I would recommend looking up some of the famous and notable people with Autism and Asperger's. You're talking about great musicians, composers, writers, directors, scientists, etc. Here, I looked it up for you. http://www.onlinegraduateprograms.com/blog/2010/08/30-famous-thinkers-believed-to-be-autistic/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_people_with_autism_spectrum_disorders http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Historical_figures_sometimes_considered_autistic Actually Aceshigh7, I'll be more than happy to meet you somewhere and I can bring my son. Then, you tell me personally how mentally challenged he really is and how oblivious I am.
HAHAHA WOW. You sound like a major idiot. You do realize that Autism is on a different spectrum to that of r****dation. They are entirely different things, with different symptoms. Do you have any idea how many well known people have autism? Did it ever occur to you that some people diagnosed with autism are unusually smart or gifted? Daniel Tammet aka Brainman has autism. Are you trying to tell me that someone who is coined as a living genius is actually r****ded? What about the guy who invented Pokemon? Seems like he did pretty well for himself no? I had the honor in meeting and talking to John Elder Robinson last thanksgiving. He showed me around his very large estate, namely his study where he was working not only on another bestselling novel, but doing other fascinating things like designing and programming his own handheld games. He had a garage full of very, very nice cars, which I'm sure many of us would splurge on in the same way as he did given the opportunity at that amount of wealth. Aside from a small tick, (he would literally say woof, many times for no reason. Not really a big deal) he was a very courteous and kind person. Undoubtedly one of the more fascinating and bright people I have encountered. Perhaps you have just never encountered an actual autistic person, but quite honestly, the only one who sounds absolutely r****ded is you.
