I bet the lots-o-guns posters have or would like to have HUGE cars as well.

    Sure it's for hunting.

Really? Because my father shot an intruder in our house who was armed when I was a kid. But I guess showing a guy with a gun a butter knife is your best bet.

LOL at you for being close minded and stereotyping people

I grew up in a house that had all the family bedrooms on the top floor & access to that area was restricted by a huge, metal safe-like door - it could only be opened from inside. Some of us do not have to be living in a war zone to have legitimate reason for needing protection.

    Yes, i own a firearm.

and Ronny, i've often been told my peen, Pericles, is a beautiful specimen while not being too beaucoup.

I'm advocating overall disarmament. Criminals shouldn't have guns or access to them either. People will still be robbed and mugged, but the mentality is changed when criminals have to use switchblades with specific targets over guns that can spatter.

I've had a gun held to my face. I'm close with 2 guys who grew up on the streets. And it's a hell of a lot harder to stab someone than shoot them.

If you really want to protect yourself, your kids and your loved ones while evolving from the primal nature that made bludgeoning other humans an every day event 10,000 years ago, sacrifice a little to get a lot. The issue here isn't just homicide and the physical number of deaths that result from guns. Getting rid of guns creates a less aggressive, more trustworthy society that improves your safety in the long run.

Once you get the guns out of the hands of criminals, we'll talk.

I agree that society would be better off if no one had guns but that certainly isn't the case in America. Criminals own and use guns. So I guess since we both agree with that point, I really don't see why you are trying to argue with gun owners about why they own firearms. I know you don't think that you are going to change the world by posting on clutchfans, so I guess I don't really understand the true point of this thread other than to argue with people who feel the need to own a gun.

Further, I own two firearms (pistol and a shotgun) yet I am not aggressive, would not consider brandishing them in a public place and would never take them outside of my home (with the exception of practicing at gun ranges), so I'm not sure how I am part of the problem...

Even going back to the two horrible events that have taken place in this country in the last couple of weeks...law enforcement was aware of both people yet did nothing to stop them...so we could argue that they are also part of the problem in those two specific situations.

Whether you are appalled or not, is up for debate. Yet you do have such a selective grasp of daily life during various periods of history that you make yourself look silly and incapable of grasping basic concepts.

However, since you're just trolling here, that probably isn't the case.

    1. Almost all guns from the historical periods mentioned were not created with the purpose of wiping out the Native American race.

    2. Most people during these periods didn't own slaves, or use guns to enforce slavery.

    3. Most people during these periods didn't use guns to hurt anyone else.

    4. Even those that did use guns during these periods used them, to fight a war that freed the slaves, fight for the foundation of the United States of America, actually hunted for food with them, when hunting for food was often necessary for survival.

If you'd like to go around trying to brag about how superior you are, you shouldn't make it so hard on yourself by posting things like this.

I'm not sure what all the fuss is about. Yes I own guns. I use them to hunt during season or to shoot at wildlife (racoons, possums, etc) that are messing with my property or dogs. In the latter case, I make sure I have a clear shot before pulling the trigger though I rarely miss.

You didn't read the entire thread. A number of us answered that we inherited or came into possession guns that had been in the family. In my case, it was a Llama 9mm and a .22 pistol that no longer works, and some old hunting rifles. I have never purchased a gun and never plan to purchase a gun. I have no ammo. Occasionally, I've picked up a box, cleaned up a rifle (usually a little bolt action .22), and done some target shooting, but I don't feel compelled to do it all the time or collect ever more deadly weapons.

Incidentally, the .22 pistol was from my great aunt who we are almost certain was an OSS spy in the Middle East immediately after WWII.

If there is a buy back program, I have no problem with letting go of the rifles, but I would probably hang on to the pistols for sentimental/historic reasons even though (or perhaps because) they no longer work.

Geez, I thought rtsy was annoying as **** with his tone on a single issue.

As for the question, I don't have a gun because I don't have much money, and live in DC of all places. So, too annoying. Have shot guns a few times and enjoyed it, and will probably get a few if I move back to Houston and have money.
