Is there any chance that this was all faked? Couldn't video editing software have produced all the footage associated with Curiosity?
NASA has posted Curiousity's first color picture from the Mars landing site: http://www.nasa.gov/images/content/674080main_PIA15691-43_946-710.jpg Are you drunk?
that's still not going to get you with Curiosity, she is way more high classed and traveled then you. Spoiler brah
Thought this video was pretty awesome!, gave me chills. <iframe src="http://player.vimeo.com/video/46955132?title=0&byline=0&portrait=0&color=eefa11" width="400" height="300" frameborder="0" webkitAllowFullScreen mozallowfullscreen allowFullScreen></iframe>
Meh, this been nothing but underwhelming. So when are they going to actually release a video of a moving rover around Mars? I don't think I have seen or came across such footage yet.
Very impressive. It took a lot of hard work and effort into this mission project. I have few questions about rocket containing rover to Mars. I wonder what/who controlled the rocket all the way into the space? Were people in mission control the ones that control the rocket like remote control? Or the rocket itself know where to go with computer inside the rocket? And finally, I wonder how did heat shield and/or rover know where we wanted them to land on, the Gale Crater?
Trippy! This stuff is amazing, and they've barely begun. The camera that took this is one of several cameras that are at each wheel, so they can make sure they don't run into a Martian. These aren't the "good" cameras. Can't wait to see the high resolution color images. NASA's Mars rover Curiosity snapped this picture of Mount Sharp with its front Hazard Avoidance camera, or Hazcam. The photo was released by NASA on Aug. 6, 2012. http://www.space.com/16936-mars-rover-curiosity-first-landing-photos.html Houston#1, here's where that stuff landed.
So, we are really going to attempt an ascent of Mt Sharp? I knew it. This is about climbing to the top of the mountain and planting our flag. This isn't science; this is NASA nerds across 3 generations wanting in on our Best Personal Athletic Accomplishment thread.
They flew this thing 354 MILLION MILES and landed an suv sized robot in the exact spot they planned .. Underwhelmed ? Really ? I think you must be confusing real life with hollywood. I read they will be checking all the various components and then do a soil analysis of the landing site before it changes locations. It took the thing 8.5 months to get there and it's only been a couple of day's.Don't imagine NASA engineers are in a huge rush.
Yes, because NASA sent a rover to Mars just so you can watch a pretty video. I'm sure the first thing they came up with was to put a giant 1080p camera on it so Cowboy_Bebop can have his movie. They didn't think first about equipping it with a micro drill or microscope or solar panels. No sir, movie or GTFO...
**** you're stupid. Even James Cameron offered to have a decent camera to be put on there probably the same type of camera that is built for his deep diving expedition. Why the **** not if you travel on that time and waste all that money. Why the hell not? People would love to see the high qualify moving footage. What's stopping them for doing other stuff like also collecting other data? Isn't it time to take the next step and have a high qualify video camera? All we have so far are good photo images but how about taking a step forward and test these video camera out.
It can take HD video genius -- they are still going through the check out process which can take weeks.
Well, nevermind...according to KingCheetah, there will be video. hahaha So I guess it was worth it. I have no idea if there are any plans for video, but going off the assumption there is not... I think the priority on that type of moving visual data is pretty low. HD stills and the data they will collect from all the tools/instruments they DID put on the rover were more important to them. I mean, what do you expect to see from video? A lot of dirt, basically what you see in the pictures. You can't just say a camera was going to be on the rover, that's extra weight. Extra weight is extra fuel. Extra fuel and weight, means recalculating everything. They payoff for video is just not worth it...yet. Would it be cool, yes. I just don't think it's worth it, apparently NASA didn't either.
lol "Curiosity is packed with no fewer than 17 cameras to shoot high-quality photos and videos in black-and-white, color, and 3-D stereo of the Martian landscape." "On the ground, the rover’s main workhorse cameras are the impressive MastCams. Sitting 7 feet above the surface, these 2-megapixel cameras will provide color images and video of the surroundings. Pictures taken with the MastCams will give you a feeling of what it’s like to stand on Mars, but with superhuman eyesight. Different filters can be rotated in front of the MastCams, providing images in visible and near-infrared wavelengths." "The MastCams can take full-color 360-degree panoramic images by stitching together 150 individual photos taken in a slowly rotating circle. Finally, the cameras can also take 720p high-definition video at a rate of about 10 frames per second." lol NO UR STUPID!!!!!!!!!1 http://www.wired.com/wiredscience/2012/08/curiosity-mars-rover-cameras/
