Your argument has been reduced to you think you have a better linguistic translation than the Biblical scholars who translated texts such as the NIV translation. Sorry, but you don't win that one, despite whatever link you managed to find on thinkprogress.org or wherever.
Given that the translated texts also have differing words this passage, I would be so confident. In fact, the NIV uses the term perverts, not homosexuals. Furthermore, simple question: do you believe Paul's writings on women and slavery ought be followed?
If the bible says that homosexuality is wrong, then what does it say about women? I mean.......there's a few passages that allude to homosexuals, but there's verse upon verse that absolutely deride women as being completely worthless (well....not worthless.....just not worth any more than any of your slaves).
It's hilarious to me that we're arguing Greek semantics with somebody who can't even spell the word "and" correctly in the thread title.
It depends. If you're a Christian, you're supposed to believe that everyone is a sinner. Jesus was the only person ever to lead a sinless life. Where I think it goes wrong is when people overemphasize one sin over another, which it seems many have done with homosexuality. They'll look past the neighbor who's addicted to p*rn or has cheated on his wife, but gay people are more deserving of scorn. A murderer can be saved in prison but gays are going to hell. That type of BS. I believe all people sin and because of that, I don't judge anyone by their sins. Who am I to say one sin is greater than another? We're all unworthy. I view us all as equal in that regard and as such, whether a person is this thing or that thing doesn't factor into my impression of them. It doesn't even enter my mind.
Yes, unfortunately I made a spelling error on my phone and cannot edit it. If you'd like to defend you're viewpoint I would be very interested. If you would instead prefer to run away from debating once arguments were made against your case, by all means continue trolling. It seems to me you are very fervent in your religious beliefs. There is nothing wrong with that. Now try to convince me why you're right.
Lol leave it to you to somehow bring Islam into a thread about Christianity. It's obvious you hate Islam/Muslims and you have an agenda on this board.
If you guys want to use Leviticus as your justification, you better get to work on your salvation, as well as collecting some stones for punishing the Philistines. Here are some other laws you need to adhere to, or face eternal torment (or at least a good stoning): Don't let cattle graze with other kinds of Cattle (Leviticus 19:19) Don't have a variety of crops on the same field. (Leviticus 19:19) Don't wear clothes made of more than one fabric (Leviticus 19:19) Don't cut your hair nor shave. (Leviticus 19:27) Any person who curseth his mother or father, must be killed. (Leviticus 20:9) If a man cheats on his wife, or vise versa, both the man and the woman must die. (Leviticus 20:10). If a man sleeps with his father's wife... both him and his father's wife is to be put to death. (Leviticus 20:11) If a man sleeps with his wife and her mother they are all to be burnt to death. (Leviticus 20:14) If a man or woman has sex with an animal, both human and animal must be killed. (Leviticus 20:15-16). If a man has sex with a woman on her period, they are both to be "cut off from their people" (Leviticus 20:18) Psychics, wizards, and so on are to be stoned to death. (Leviticus 20:27) If a priest's daughter is a w****, she is to be burnt at the stake. (Leviticus 21:9) People who have flat noses, or is blind or lame, cannot go to an altar of God (Leviticus 21:17-18) Anyone who curses or blasphemes God, should be stoned to death by the community. (Leviticus 24:14-16)
A man also or woman that hath a familiar spirit, or that is a wizard, shall surely be put to death: they shall stone them with stones: their blood shall be upon them. This is real folks!
No joke. As a Christian, nothing bothers me more than other Christians using their faith as an opportunity to pass judgement on other people. Whether or not homosexuality is a sin is irrelevant. It shouldn't matter. Christians should love them just as much, if not more, since Jesus came to save the sick, not the righteous. Also...even if I thought it was a sin, it shouldn't be up to me if someone else can enter into a contract with another person and the government (which is basically what a secular marriage is). Whether or not they get married in a church IS up to a church, but shouldn't matter in contract law.
Personally, I believe many Christians put an emphasis on homosexuality as a sin because it’s safe and easy to do so. You’re 100% correct when you say that no man is without sin. However, no one wants to go to church and be reminded that they still sin and lie, steal, cheat, fornicate, hate, etc... But homosexuality? That’s an easy one. It’s easy to point the finger and persecute people that are different. And it helps some to take their minds off of their own sins and focus on those of others that are doing much “worse.”
What's there to argue? Your argument has boiled down to you have a better Greek to English translation than scholars do. I'm not impressed
Homosexuality or bisexual activity has been discovered in more than 1,500 species. Humans, as part of the natural world are included in that number. I don't get why so many people are literally AFRAID of homosexuals. I have seen people immediately purel their hands after meeting a homosexual. Of all things to be afraid of, gays? Really? You'll see the "manliest of men" shriek after an encounter with someone who is male homosexual. But, if they see an attractive lesbian they are like kids in a candy shop. I have been hit on by men, and trust me it is FAR less awkward than being hit on by an unattractive girl. With a man you simply say, "sorry, I'm not gay." What do you say to an unattractive girl? "Sorry, your nasty?" "Sorry, I'm gay?" Honestly though, how do homosexuals affect your life? They don't. Welcome to America, the land of things we love and hate. Get over it, it's the price of freedom. Which also means dealing with unintelligent baffoons who use God to justify their hate. Ignore them. This ordeal with Chick-fil-a is ridiculous. Everyone knows they are a Christian company, everyone craves a chicken sandwich on Sundays. Why are we staging protests outside of their locations for making a non hateful comment about gay marriages. People, like that CFO, keep calling them hate-mongerers, totally inaccurate according to their statement. He simply said he believes in a biblical definition of marriage, between a man and a woman. He has every right to believe that and even to state that. It is his company, it represents their values, get over it. We need to think less about what others say and do, and more about what we say and do.
Reformation? I don't agree with them, but it is not difficult to understand their belief. They claim sex is for reproduction only, therefore homosexual relations, which could never bare children, are wrong. It comes down to small statements in religious teachings. In Islam, women have been oppressed with the Qur'anic verses as justification, but it is such a small line that does not represent the general teachings of the religion. I ask myself, what do I believe in. I know that I don't believe in a God that condems people for liking boys/girls. I believe in a God that considers your actions towards others as a determination for your afterlife assignment. Unfortunately many of the "religious" wouldn't cut it...
I believe there are also many references to slavery and the rules of enslaving people in Leviticus. I use it to justify my policy that interns wash my car at least once a week.
1. Does "perverts" mean homosexuals? 2. Did Paul condemn it or simply state it is against social norms? 3. Should we follow Paul's writings on women and slavery? I've asked these questions to you three times now. Don't run away from the argument, it is doing your religious beliefs a disservice.
1 & 2 are you trying to show that you can interpret Greek better than scholars. You can't. #3 is a non sequitur and unrelated You're flailing at this point. Dud of a thread. Mission not accomplished, sorry.
