True there is not RULE in place but the competition is woefully unfair The Two Parties have the money, connections and media influence that third parties rarely have a real possibility. I think this is the problem in our view We say . . .as long as there is not RULE against it . .. we for it IT is like a woman in an abusive marriage as long as she is not forced to stay... all is good. If the she is ignorant of hier choices or have restricted choices. . .it is not a concern becuase the choices are there for her. This is why folx were ok with Pre Union work conditions because they thought they have the choice of not working there when in reality the economic conditions didn't make it much of a choice Rocket River
While you're completely right, you're too... fatalist about it. The problem is the winner-take-all elections. You have a multiplicity of parties in European parliamentary systems. You don't see it here because it's man-v-man instead of party-v-party. European parliaments have a host of problems all their own, and I'm not sure I want to trade; but, most of the worst problems we currently suffer from is because of the two-party system, which is dictated by the construction of our elections. Our congressmen aren't terrible reps because they don't have the same color/religion/gender/money as their constituents; they're terrible because they have more allegiance to their party than they do to their constituents. The parties, in their turn, have more allegiance to their benefactors than they do to their constituents. And, somewhere along the way, the current of allegiance switched, and it's now the constituents who swear allegiances to parties and not the other way around. Which is no wonder when you have to choose either the Republicans or the Democrats to be part of a group with any political power. Average Joe, nonprofessional reps are not the answer. Filling congress with a bunch of amateurs is just a huge opportunity for savvy, monied operatives who will go about manipulating stupid reps. If anything is worse than our current system, it's that. Filling congress with thousands of reps isn't going to help either. The voting power of each one will be so small, that people won't care at all who it is. Nor will qualified people want the job, because it comes with almost no power (and likely inadequate pay). And, the bunch would be too big for any debate or assembly. It's likely that a large House like that would elect a smaller number among themselves to wield the real power -- which is corruption waiting to happen.
Draft people to congress would look like Jury Duty A Bunch of folx who don't wanna be there who are easily manipulated but savy Lawyers Rocket River
They don't have much of a choice anymore. Probably a reasonable explanation for low voter turnout, incidentally.
