I am still divided as to whether teams will really go after him because I don't anticipate the Rockets winning a ton of games but that is just me. Nonetheless I just think there will be a lot of growing pains. Fans are very excited now and have high expectations but he will have bad games just like any other young pg curious to see how people handle it. Fans can be fickle.

I just meant in their game plan when defending the Rockets and trying to win ball games that teams will to focus on Lin. Will every player go all out like he stole their lunch? I think that depends on how good or bad the Rockets will be in the upcoming season and some nights they might be underestimated. But I agree, they will struggle but that's just part of the rebuilding process.

Fans will be fans, and haters will come out full force if Lin struggles but that's just part of him getting attention as well. I can't wait to see how it all unfolds.

Oh My bad. Misunderstood what you were getting at. Yeah I see them packing the paint because of his ability to attack the rim and forcing him to shoot jumpers which he isn't the best at. Things like zone defense and such. I am cool with seeing some struggles to be honest seeing as how we are rebuilding. I am more focused on growth and improvement by the team and less focused on wins and losses. And yes I am excited to see how everything unfolds particularly with the play of Omer.

Haha, Thunder 2nd unit? GTFO. Give us some credit, PJ3? Royce will check him easily.

During Linsanity, there were other good teams. Twolves in the 7th spot before Rubio's torn acl. Dropped 28/8 on the Jazz, they actually made the playoffs.

Jin eventual ppg and apg, will also depends how the referees call Rockets games. If JLin get the "star" calls he may get an extra 2 to 3 pts a game. JLin may also shoot techs for the Rockets.

But what matters most is that he will make the players around him better.

what made it work was that all the pieces in the linsanity crew fit perfectly in a pick and roll system.

on defense.. they had good individual defenders (chandler, jeffries, shump, and yes, lin too.. he himself states that his defense was one of his strong points and it showed while in GS), they had good help/team defense, they had a shot blocker down low, and good perimeter defense.

on offense.. they had guys that played their positions and played it well. a deadly perimeter shoot (novak), a slasher (fields and shump), good pick and roll big men (chandler and jeffries), and a point guard that commands the double team, breaks down the defense with this dribble penetration and, runs the pick and roll to perfection with those group of guys. and you gotta give d'antoni some credit also.

i think the rockets can be success with lin also, but it will take some time and the guys will have to be willing to be part of the system, not against it. i'm already positive about martin and/or lamb at the sg position, chandler at the sf position, and asik at the c position. i think jones will be awesome at the pf position in this system as he has sound offensive and defensive skills, has high bb iq, and is really under rated. i would bring motie in first off the bench to spell either the pf or c position. and then sub white along with the other guys as the 2nd unit.

He was never the most famous athlete in the world.
maybe in the US, and in countries like Taiwan, China, and other Asian countries, but he wasnt famous outside those countries.

I don't know if I would say that he was the most famous athlete in the world. But they were talking about him in some countries in Latin America, Europe and Africa.

Um, I've followed twitter and other social media outlets at the beginning of February and people in New Zealand, Mexico, France, and elsewhere in Europe were buying custom Jeremy Lin T-Shirts before the NBA and NYK had any shirts out. I even read a quote from an Australian Colonel in the Australian army on Jeremy Lin.

But honestly Soccer is the premier world sport and the top soccer stars are the most famous. Michael Jordan would be somewhere in the top 10 for sure.

Not to pick on you, but I don't think you were following the world response and the level of activity in the news and social media globally when Jeremy Lin stepped onto the big stage. I just wanted to clarify that your belief was wrong. There is a global interest in Jeremy Lin. But I think we all are just waiting to see how he performs next season with the Rockets.

    Go Rockets!

Roxxy, I definitely understand your caution in not setting expectations too high as noone can be expected to improve every year without bumps along the way. Being on a team with less help, comparatively speaking; having the opposing team's PG play with possibly the highest effort level of the year to show that they are just as great and worthy of attention, night in and night out; having a new system to fit into; the sophomore blues, etc., can all contribute to a season where he underachieves. And the team being so young, can possibly have an underwhelming record of less than 25 wins, but....
If anyone's proven that he can achieve against all odds, it's Lin. I don't think 18 and 8 is out of reach. 20 and 10 may be pushing it, but were I in Lin's circle, that would've been what I would set as a personal goal on top of a bigger goal of learning how to lead a team better and possibly reaching the playoffs.
Hopefully, if he leads the Rockets to an exciting brand of basketball next year with 30-40 wins (41+ wins??) and show that some of his purported shortcomings are simply not true, live up to what he did last year and attain personal stats of 18 and 8, it would be a great success and a great first step in what I think will be a great career.
It is possible that the Rockets only get 25-30 wins and Lin's stats are around 16 and 6, but I'm banking on the fact that what I saw in Lin wasn't a fluke. And that he truly is a "special" player. That is what you saw, right? That he was one of those special players? Maybe not of the HOF, best in the game, variety, but let's not underplay what the kid has shown us and has done. We like what we saw in this kid last year for a reason. I believe he'll show us once again.

If Omer brings it, learns to de-Kwamefy his hands, and proves doubters wrong. If JLamb can bring his smooth offensive game at a top rookie pace, and shows us that his defensive intensity is where he wants to get better in as he mentioned in several interviews. If the rest of the team buys into the defense that needs to be there to win and the team learns to keep the ball moving as White and the rest have shown, if Parsons can integrate his game with Lin a la Fields, this team will have 35+ wins. I believe that. Go Rockets!

It's really hard to guess at the team's performance level for several reasons.

    1. Of course, the possibility of the Dwight Howard trade, which can involve a lot of players and add a guy who may not be 100% physically and mentally to start the season.

    2. Leaving that aside, assuming no Dwight Howard deal, there could still be at least one fairly major move: What to do with Kevin Martin? Will the team keep him at least until the trade deadline given that he's pretty good and has an expiring contract (which is more in demand at the trade deadline than at the start of the season when it comes to teams wanting to cut salary).

Martin had a bad year, but he is likely still the best SG on the roster at this point.

    3. All the Rookies. It's hard to say what they will do. Will any of them become instant contributor like Parsons? Will some take half a season before earning minutes like Carl Landry and Patterson did as rookies? Will they be benched for the entirety of the season like Morris? If they play, will they be competitive with NBA vets or will they just be thrown out there for experience regardless of results (like the OKC team did with the likes of Durant, Green, Westbrook, etc. when they were winning 20 games a season)?

Right now, we can probably count on Lin, Asik, Parsons and Patterson to be somewhat decent in whatever minutes the got out there despite these guys being inexperienced themselves, but the rest of the rotation is a big question mark. I can see them being pretty good and win at least 50% of their games, but it could also be a difficult season.

Barring serious injuries though, I can't see this team winning less than 30 games and be really terrible. Somebody will step up and perform.

I suppose I'm the most optimistic one in this thread, then, as I see the rocks winning 35-42 games.

Lin, KMart, and Asik should form a solid offensive/defensive nucleus, certainly capable of playing .500 ball. The rooks are tougher to judge; all I know is that the rocks will plenty of fresh legs if mchale wants to emphasize a pressing, attacking defense.

Opposing defenses are going to make adjustments against Lin, but Lin has shown a commitment to bettering himself in every area in the offseason. Lin will be able to breathe a little bit and pace himself; there's no way he'll face the pressure and scrutiny he did in NY.

Can't wait for 12/13 man, should be good!
