Andre Drummond or Jeremy Lamb + Toronto pick

If it's Lamb by himself vs Drummond by himself, I'll take Lamb all day. I really don't see Drummond becoming anything special.

 

Tough to say since Lamb or Drummond haven't played an NBA game yet, but I think what we did was better. We now have two pieces for the future (assuming we don't trade them) instead of one.

I don't think that would've been the trade.

I think it's basically Lowry + (maybe our 18th) or Drummomd

 

Morey was never offering Lowry + the #12 pick for the #8 pick. He wouldn't give up his top trade asset (Lowry) just to move up four spots.

I'm guessing that Morey was either offering a package of picks for #8 or Lowry by himself. Also, despite the media reports, I'm doubtful that Morey was interested in Drummond to begin with (I think he wanted MKG first and then Beal and then Lillard over him). Hell, he may have actually taken LAMB at #8 since those guys were unavailable.

 

If we tanked last season and picked at #8, Morey might still pick Lamb.

 

If it was just Lamb versus Drummond would be a tough one... very close in talent... Lamb is much safer, Drummond has a higher ceiling.

But Lamb + Toronto pick is CLEARLY more value than just Drummond.

 

Toronto would definitely have done 8 for Lowry + 12, because Ross would have still been there for them to take. Obviously that wasn’t offered.

According to Colangelo from a press conference the day after the draft, they only got offers to trade completely out of the draft. No trade down offers.

If what he's saying is accurate, the most Morey offered was only Lowry for 8.

 

except they don't really need Lowry that much, and they are desperate for something like Drummond.

re the question, i don't know. Generally #12 + top 3 restricted future lottery picks > #8

But I think Orlando might prefer Drummond over those pieces. He's not that different from Howard when he came in. Maybe a bit more raw, but basically all the same question marks and positives.

 

This is a tough decision since they were both the top prospects I wanted in the draft.

If we knew back then what we know now (in getting Asik and Lin), then I'd go with Lamb+ the pick. If not, Drummond would be the obvious decision as we wouldn't really have a center.

 

I agree, I don't expect much from Drummond either. He reminds me of a Hasheem Thabeet 2.0.

This is an interesting thread, but focusing on the wrong player. I know reports were about Drummond, but I agree with BimaThug, seems that was a smokescreen ... and Drummond "dropping" to #8 somewhat substantiates that.

Maybe we should redo the question as Lowry + our top pick for MKC, Beal or Lillard.

 

I think it's perfect the way it turned out. With that pick and hopefully Dallas' pick we can add on to our already stacked team. Both of those picks plus another veteran picked up in free agency will be the final piece to us becoming the next OKC one day.

I don't think so. He will struggle early, of course, but he showed in summer league that he has an okay looking shot to try and develop. That would make him deadly.
