Last year, Lin's FG% was 44.6%. Here are some other PG's: Rajon Rondon 44.8% Devin Harris 44.5% Derrick Rose 43.5% Mike Conley 43.3% Rodney Stucky 42.9% John Wall 42.3% Brandon Jennings 41.8% And btw, Melo's FG%? 43.0%
Setting aside the fact that Knicks fans are annoying, racist, and downright idiots isn't the best player supposed to be selfish? Ball goes to that player because he has the best chance to make points
I don't know about the MSG crowd but people were calling him selfish in Denver. Also, on this board we were talking about how his selfishness was a major cause of the Knicks losing streak long before Linsanity. Melo was just jeolous Lin was getting all the good publicity and that Lin not Melo is why the Knicks made the play-offs.
Best chance?? The players on the Knicks with the highest efficiency is: 1. Tyson 2. Novak 3. Stat When a player with a low offensive efficiency taking the most shots, the team is doomed!
Before the trade, he practically sat out the entire season in Denver to make sure he'd get traded to the Knicks. George Karl was pissed.
we can speculate how they would've performed without Melo. But that team was really good and it performed accordingly. It gets forgotten how awesome they were in the 2009 playoffs. They knocked two very talented teams and had a very good series vs. the Lakers. They collapsed in the 2010 second half / playoffs (George Carl was undergoing cancer treatment at the time, so I guess this goes to the "NBA is a coaches' league" camp). And then Melo was traded by the next midseason.
In the 8 or so times that Melo has been in the playoffs, 2009 was the only year they ever advanced past the 1st round. And IMO, it was Billups that put them over the hump that year, not Melo.
I know I am a new member but,.... Here's my take on Melo: - Melo was labeled SELFLISH way before Linsanity as many people have already posted. Blaming it on Lin showed his leadership insecurity. - Knicks was 7 games under .500 before Linsanity hit. Even with the final 16/8 run Melo did, Knicks would have had been 1 game above .500 without the Linsanity run. Where would have Knicks been considering during Linsanity period there was no Melo, no Amare and no Baron Davis? What would have the record been like for the Knicks? - George Karl is a great coach. As great as Melo is (as many ESPN analysts claim), Melo could not lead the team to final ONCE. His peers like Bron (in Cleveland years) have taken his team to finals a couple times and won season MVP a few times with less support than Melo had. - Melo can play, can score, can pass, but can't lead. Bad mouthing someone's contract is a great example of poor leadership. Jealousy or not, lead by action, not by saying "I am the leader of the team". Best companies recruit for best talents, not squeezing talents out because of the "threat to the throne". - 2013 is going to be a breakout season for Melo. He simply has too much to prove. He'll go for scoring champion, and season MVPs. And Knicks is stacking players (Chris Andersen in the talk, Josh Howard in the talk, Ronnie Brewer signed? And JR's Brother. ((LOL)).) At least Knicks is showing the world that they strongly believe in Melo. We'll see how the season goes. - Finally, Houston Rockets. I am a basketball fan. I followed Clutchfan in Hakeem days then left because I couldn't find the joy of watching NBA in the last decade. Lin sort of pulled me back to watch this league. He is unique. His skills is still suspect but as far as I remember, younger players improve when they work hard. Lin seems to be working hard on his skills. Royce White, DMo, Lamb all seemed really hopeful in the summer league. I like young players because they play their heart out like college kids. Rockets will be a fun team to watch next season. 2 cents.
He's not blaming Linsanity. He's just saying that's where the whole selfish talk escalated. People forget that Melo was vouching for Lin even before Linsanity started. He just says stupid stuff.
I agree with Melo on this one, when he came back from his mid-season groin injury, half on Knick-dom was calling Melo selfish. In Melo's Denver days, that adjective was rarely used to describe him, but that definitely doesn't mean he wasn't selfish. Melo's a chucker, and he'll shoot you to victories, and also shoot you into defeats. The biggest knock in Denver, was that Melo didn't play team Defense, and was basically the reason George Karl had a heart attack (probably not). Melo is definitely a great individual player, but that doesn't translate into a great overall player, like a Kobe or Lebron. Before Linsanity, Melo wasn't labelled selfish, all the blame for the Knick's failure either went to D'Antoni, or the lack of a decent PG. Of course before Linsanity, no one cared about the New York Knicks, they were irrelevant.
Try saying something meaningful instead of blowing BS. Which part of the post are you responding to exactly? If you're talking about the "ridiculous contract" comment, it remains to be shown that Melo wasn't talking about the amount but the structure 5-5-15 of the contract. To insist he is dissing on Lin getting paid is over-reaching, and to blindly ignore the context of the Q&A.
Used to be a big Melo fan. His offensive skills are the best in the league, but he's becoming a big douche.
