Astros acquire Class A RHP Chris Devenski from White Sox as PTBNL in Brett Myers trade. Devenski, 21, is a RHP from Cal State Fullerton, drafted in the 25th round in 2011. He's been at Low-A all season with Kannapolis, so Lexington's seen him a couple of times.

    Devenski is 6-5 with a 4.23 ERA in 19 games (8 starts). In 61.2 innings, he's allowed 31 runs (29 earned) on 63 hits (8 homers), walked 19, and struck out 54.

Also, the Astros acquired RHP Garrett Mock from the Red Sox for future considerations. According to the story below, he will be heading to OKC. Also a Houston native. Graduated from North Shore and UH.

That got an "oh well" from me. White Sox system is pretty bad, so there probably weren't very many appealing PTBNL choices, outside of the untouchable ones.

Hopefully the Blue Jays' PTBNL will bring some better news.

    Overload in progress:

    Player Page

As a member of the Intimidators, Devenski has faced Lexington twice, once as a starter on July 11, and also as a reliever on May 19.

In the start, he got the loss after Delino DeShields took him deep for a 3-run homer, which happened to be the only 3 runs that the Legends scored. He got the loss in a 3-2 game.

In relief, he threw 2 scoreless innings, walked 1, and struck out 3 as Lexington won 7-5.

    Brian Hamilton (Climbing Tal's Hill):

IMO this trade of Myers was about getting him to a team that likely wouldnt use him int he 9th often thus not triggering his clause. <s>#</s>Astros
— Brian Hamilton (@BHam2421) August 3, 2012

Brings OKC up to 6 starters (7 with Cosart on the DL). Probably means Brian Bass is getting a pink slip soon. He provides nothing.

Jimmy Paredes is in CF for Oklahoma City and just hit a 2-run shot in the 1st, his 12th of the season.

Considering that this is Devenski's first full season of pro ball, and he only threw a combined 29 IP in 2011, I'm going to guess that someone in the Astros' scouting dept. has seen him pitch more than yall have

We have a lot of players that are capable of starting on that team: Oberholtzer, Cosart, Musick, AnRod, Buchanan, Bass, Owens, Seaton, and Cisnero.

Musick's been on the DL for a long time. A-Rod and Sergio Perez are swing guys. Both have seen time in the pen and the rotation.

Other than Buch getting a relief appearance in when he got up to AAA I think everyone else have been exclusive starters.

That would explain why I haven't heard about Musick in a while, sorry did not know that. My point was they are all capable of starting, even if some Also pitch in relief

Actually, the quintet of Cosart/Cisnero/Buchanan/Seaton/Oberholtzer was the opening day rotation for Corpus Christi. It's pretty interesting to see them all up at AAA together again.

    Friday's Story

Crap night for the full-season teams.... 3 walk-off losses and a blowout.

    Recap

OKC walked off with a 4-3 loss in 11 innings to Tacoma, as Nick Franklin took Jose Valdez deep to lead off the Rainiers' half of the 11th. Jimmy Paredes was in CF and was the entire offense for the Redhawks in this game. He hit a 2-run shot in the 1st, his 12th of the season. Paredes finished 4-5 and added an RBI double in the 8th. Brian Bass allowed a 2-run homer in the bottom of the 1st, the only runs he would allow in 7 innings. He allowed 7 hits and struck out 1. Fernando Abad blew it when Alex Liddi took him for a ride with 1 out in the 9th.

Corpus also walked off losers; 6-5 in 10 to Midland. A rare bad outing for Jason Stoffel, who blew only his 2nd save of the season. In his first rehab game, Jason Castro went 2-2 with a double. Drew Locke and Jonathan Singleton had RBI singles, and Bobby Borchering had a 2-run single. Borchering also scored when Kody Hinze grounded into a double play. Asher Wojciechowski went 5 1/3 innings and allowed a run on 2 hits, walked 1, and struck out 5. He threw 88 pitches. Alex Sogard went 2 innings and allowed a run (in the 6th) on 1 hit (not a homer), walked 1, and struck out 3. After Sogard, it was a disaster.

Lancaster's playoff push took a big hit as High Desert pounded them 11-2. Chris Epps (8; 10 season) and Jonathan Meyer (5) hit back-to-back solo homers.... in the 8th inning, when the Jethawks were down 11-0. Tyson Perez allowed 7 runs on 11 hits (solo homer) in 5 innings, walking 1 and striking out 1.

Lexington walked off with a loss in the most painful way possible.... as Matt Skole grand slammed Murilo Gouvea with 2 outs in the 9th to give Hagerstown a 6-3 win. Matt Duffy had an RBI double in the 1st, and in the 2nd, Cristian Moronta drew a walk with the bases loaded and Delino DeShields had an RBI single. Jonas Dufek went 5 innings and allowed 2 runs on 4 hits, walked 5, and struck out 2. Tom Shirley pitched 3 in relief and allowed a hit, walked 1, and fanned 4. Gouvea couldn't close it out.

On the other hand, it was a great night for the short season teams... in actual towns.

Tri-City took 2 of 3 from Batavia with a 7-2 win. Brian Holmes, coming off a 7-inning 1-hitter his last time out, went 6 innings and allowed 2 runs (1 earned) on 4 hits (solo homer) and struck out 8. Jeremiah Meniers and John Neely finished out another Tri-City win.

Offensively, Jesse Wierzbicki hit a 2-run homer in the 5th, his 4th with Tri-City and 5th of the season. Andrew Aplin had a 2-run double. Tyler Heineman went 2-4 with 2 doubles, one of which went for an RBI. He had an RBI force play in the 1st. Joe Sclafani added a sac fly.

Greeneville.... well, that was fun. They took 2 of 3 in their series with Kingsport in an 18-2 laugher. 6 in the 4th and 7 more in the 6th was more than enough. Everyone had a hit except for Marc Wik, who was ejected. Everyone had an RBI except for Terrell Joyce, who went 2-6 with a double and scored twice. Whew... too much going on offense, so just bear with me here.

Angel Ibanez, Brian Blasik, Ernesto Genoves, and Jean Carlos Batista drove in 3 each. Ibanez went 5-6 with a double and scored 4 runs. Blasik was 3-6 with a triple and scored twice. Genoves was 2-4 with a double and scored twice. Batista had a 2-run homer in the 4th, his 6th of the season. Also, Jose Monzon went 3-4 with 2 RBI singles and scored twice. D'Andre Toney had an RBI double, and Mike Martinez had an RBI infield single. Michael Feliz threw 4 innings and allowed 2 runs on 3 hits, walked 1, and struck out 3. Brad Propst threw 2 scoreless for the win, allowing 2 hits, walking 1, and striking out 4. Mike Dimock got a 3-inning save and struck out 3 while retiring all 9 Mets he faced.

The GCLstros tried a comeback from 6-0 down to the Nationals, but they fell just short, losing 6-4. Juan Santana had a 2-run single in the 8th. Ydarqui Marte had an RBI double in the 5th, and Carlos Correa drove him home with a single. Agapito Barrios allowed 6 runs (3 earned) on 8 hits and struck out 1 in 4 innings of work. Juan Mojica and Ambiorix De Leon threw 3 and 2 scoreless, respectively.

The Academy was blanked by the Indians 3-0. Cristian Murillo had 2 of the 4 hits. Francisco Baso had a 1-2-3 1st. Edwin Villarroel went 5 innings and allowed 2 runs (1 earned) on 2 hits, walked 1, and struck out 1.

Why? That's a damn good strikeout to walk ratio.
ERA is high but he's also developing stuff and is at least commanding it.

And again, We're talking about Brett Myers here.
