except the broken bridge/rope complaint...for which there is no explanation bc air langhi misremembers the prison. there is no broken bridge...the only way out is up.
I really enjoyed Nolan's reimagining of Bubbly the Octopus as Bane. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/pHKRxmxExN4" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
I'll go ahead and spoiler this even though I don't think it should be necessary at this point... Spoiler Saw it finally. Loved it. I haven't read through much but the last few pages of this thread, so much of a movie discussion I have probably missed, so I apologize if I bring up points that have been mentioned or discussed ad nausiem. Action/fight scenes were fantastic. Nolan has grown so much in that area of his abilities. It was apparent in Inception to some degree, but that wasn't as focussed in that area so I wasn't sure if he had really made the big steps that he has. I was a bit disappointed that they telegraphed the ending so much. That great emotional scene between Bruce and Alfred towards the beginning made it blatantly obvious how the movie was going to end. I knew right then what the last scene of the movie would be. But I'll admit to not seeing the autopilot thing ahead of time. I had totally forgotten about that until it was mentioned later. One thing that surprised me about this movie was how much of an about-face Nolan took following the ending of The Dark Knight. I mean, the way TDK ends, it seems that the plans for Batman were that his day-to-day crime fighting would pretty much remain the same except that he would be hated instead of loved. But that isn't how it went down at all, it seems. In fact, the only reason the ending of TDK is not a totally Happily Ever After is because Bruce can't seem to get past his own issues and just live his life up as a normal playboy millionaire. Once the Dent Act was instated the city didn't need Batman (until Bane shows up). I'm wondering if the biggest reason for that is because of Ledger dying. Had Joker been in this movie then Nolan would have probably gone a completely different direction. Speaking of which, did anyone think it would have been funny had it been Joker sitting atop the desk throne of justice instead of Scarecrow? That wouldn't have exactly fit in with his M.O. because Joker was more an agent of chaos and dispensing justice is done in order to prevent chaos, but maybe he could have been doing it to mock the legal system or something. It was just something that occured to me. Again, loved it. VERY excited to see what Nolan comes up with next.
Anyone else get the vibe that Bane sounded exactly like Henry Killinger from The Venture Bros? <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/eyj8uKiSX6E" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Actually, I came away thinking it was a direct nod/lift from the cartoon: I can't remember well, but IIRC there was also a Criminal's Court set up in No Man's Land.
This seemed like the intent all along. What they ended up with has more the feeling of a last minute replacement.
And the Heath Ledger Joker sounded just like this guy <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/tsRbhBXPgKk?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
I don't think so. It very much fits Scarecrow's character in the franchise. If you remember he made a token appearance in Dark Knight peddling his drugs. I think it very much speaks to his character in Nolan's world that he never was much of a threat to Batman, so we come across him in the later two films, like in the first, as nothing more than a pawn and a scrub in a much larger game. Besides, Joker would never do something like that. Heath Ledger's Joker would have Gotham turn on itself after turning on Bane and Talia. He would have the citizens of Gotham kill every last citizen to find the detonator. He's all about chaos.
That's terrible man. Another Batman movie had to happen soon, I get that.... but not like this. Sheesh.
I can understand a reboot, if Nolan and Bale aren't going to come back do you really want a 2nd rate actor/director combo letting you down? I don't.
Nolan doesn't want to do the movies anymore. I think TDK was his magnum opus. It is going down hill from there.
Nolan's story is complete. I would a live action take on Batman like Arkham City. That would be great.
Bigger question is, what direction do they go with it? We've had: Gothic (Burton) Campy (West/Schumacher) Gritty (Nolan) With the JL Universe coming into play, I almost wonder if they need to look at the Batman Inc/Gotham Knights angle. Nightwing, Huntress, Oracle, Robin, Canary, etc. It helps get away from the Wayne-only character arc, which opens thing up more for the story. Otherwise, I'd like to see a World's Greatest Detective take on him. That's been lost in all the films (Nolan gave it a little attention in TDK).
