LMFAO. Yeah, the information you're reading is likely soda or drug company funded research. Think that's not bias? You should read about the drug trials they used to approve splenda. Those tests wouldn't even hold up from an integrity standpoint in a high school chemistry class. Only 23 human test subjects over a 3 month time period and it was approved because of no noticeable side affects? Yeah, smoking doesn't do anything after 3 months either. But look at the long term. So yeah, enjoy those issues in your 40s, that cancer you get at 52 and the relapse at 59. The human body is an amazing machine but it will succumb over time.
There's some truth in your argument, but aspartame isn't exactly new; it's been approved for use for nearly 40 years. Where are all of the aspartame victims dying of aspartame related illnesses?
I'm pretty sure that whole "aspartame causes cancer" letter was fake. Is there any actual data that proves its harmful effects?
When I drink a Coke I feel kinda ****ty. When I drink a diet Coke I feel really ****ty. When I drink an honest-to-god pure cane Cola, I feel fine. Not looking for aspartame to be shown to directly wreck people up and down, but I have my hunch that it isn't good in the long term, especially since most long-term users tend to imbibe a lot. The book is mostly written on HFCS, too, and it ain't good.
Ahhh, that's the trick Mr. Fisher. How do we prove, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that aspartame caused anything? You can't because there are other factors at play. That's like asking someone to prove smoking is harmful because in their limited world view their 93 year old grandpa is still putting down a pack of smokes a day and has for 70 years. So it can't be bad either right? But I didn't make the definitive statement that it was absolutely safe either. The reality is, aspartame is old school and isn't really used much. It's been replaced and there isn't any long term scientific studies available on aspartame consumption in humans let alone children or pregnant women. Everything uses splenda now anyway. That's the new boogey man.
Nobody's asking you to prove it beyond the shadow of a doubt, but you haven't even provided enough to get to a jury. There's a crapload more evidence about smoking being bad for your health than there is about aspartame, which was kind of the go-to-sweetener for about 20 years until SPlenda took over. At 30 years later we'd be seeing some link - there's more than enough incentive to mass tort trial lawyers to go after the deep pockets of the food industry like they did tobacco and score some real successes if there was actually some evidence, but there doesn't really appear to be enough.
Just avoid artificial sweetners and corn syrup period. It's just not worth the risk compared to the damage those things do to your body. Personally the only type of sweetners I use are raw honey (tastes much better than processed honey and is better for you) and raw stevia (it's natural and does not cause a jump in insuline in your body). My father in law has had all of his toes and 4 of his fingers removed due to sugar diabetes. Sugar diabetes is not just caused by eating sugar but those things that cause an insuline spike from your pancreas such as carbohydrates (soft drinks) sugar, artificial sweetners and corn syrup. The best thing you can do for your diet is to remove all products with corn syrup, sugar and arificail sweetners. Everyone needs carbs but sorft drinks are all carbs and sweetners. What do carbs do once they enter the body? They turn into sugar which creates an insuline spike from your pancreas. Insuline spikes causes your body to store fat etc.... and causes sugar diabetes, kidney failure etc... Soft drinks, regardless of diet or not, are one of the single worst things you can put in your body. Couple that with the fact that damn near every single processed or canned food has corn syrup in it just eating is dangerours for those that don't know what they are doing to their bodies.
I agree with you, unfortunately. I believe corn syrup/artificial sweetners to be a cause of a lot of the health problems we have today and hope one day the evidence is there for the attorneys to come calling. Problem is, the FDA is run by attorneys. No way to really create a trail for good or bad. But there have been complaints submitted to the FDA. This website shows a list from 1995: http://www.sweetpoison.com/articles/0706/aspartame_symptoms_submit.html How does a doctor knowingly diagnose strictly aspartame as the cause of 'headache' when there could be other factors at play: sleep habits, dehydration, stress, lack of exercise ect. And that's just the American lifestyle creating synergy towards a disease state.
Please stop trying to vilify artificial sweeteners as you have no way of proving it is harmful in any sort of way. If you do, please provide me with a link. Like someone else already said, you can't prove its harmful and you can't prove that its not either.
Let's hook up in 30 years bro. That's all i'm saying. Until then, you consume your chemical sweetners & I'll do my thang. I've been a personal trainer & diet coach for almost 7 years. Over that time I've had the opportunity to work for a lot of people over the age of 50. I've totally reconditioned people to make lifestyle changes with their diet. When they cut out all this processed garbage and their 4 diet cokes a day and move to more organic and natural dietary alternatives, the results have been stunning. People who have been obese their entire lives and they're losing 110lbs without any bs surgery. You have your POV & I have mine.
Hey man this is not a debate as far as I'm concerned as you can do with your body as you like. You can easily google the harmfull effects of artificial sweetners if you like. I can tell you from personal experience how much better I feel after eleminating those things from my life. I was always very active, played a lot of ball etc, etc, etc... I am currently 6' and about 195 and in decent shape and I will turn 50 next year. At one point in my life I had actually balooned up to 235 which just sucked. No changes in my eating style or drinking style. I added a few more lbs every year once I reached 30. By the time I was 45 my wieght had topped out, I was taking indegestion pills daily and my damn joints hurt. I summed it all up to getting older. Finally when my ankles started hurting I decided to try to find out what I could do to combat it and as a result I cut out proccessed foods, soft drinks, corn syrup products and all artificial sweetners. I still eat steak and potatoes but I also eat green vegetables, fish and limit those things that cause an insulin spike in my body such as starchy foods (not cutting them out just limmiting them). The biggest thing I did was get rid of the sugars and artificial sweetners. I am down to my wieght when I was 30 again and have maintened for years. Joints have not hurt for a long time, seldom take indegestion medicine, I sleep better and just feel better at almost 50 then I did at 45. So believe what you want. Maybe the artificial sweetners will never effect you. I hope not. But maybe it will sneak up on you gradually over years like it did with me until one day you just look and feel bad. Good luck either way.
My Uncle is the same way(he's about 73), he'll tell me "Rolyat93, bring me a Coke, .. ........ I need to burp."
Thanks for your insight, I've done a lot of research on the ill effects and some of it does actually seem to have some validity. I used to just drink only water for fear of developing anything that was supposedly caused by sugar substitutes, but after a while i realized, since i was already consuming a decent amount from my supplements, i might as well drink diet beverages too. I think i was just trying to find an excuse to make it ok . Honestly, i feel fine right now and i hope there isn't anything wrong with me. I admit, i do still worry about the possible effects and complications i might encounter in the future, however far away that may be. I have been thinking about going cold turkey with the diet stuff again though since those paranoid thoughts about the effects have started to creep back into my head. I agree with you in that you said cutting out artificial sweeteners would improve your health as putting any chemical in your body can't be all good. I hope your health only continues to improve and thanks again for sharing your experience. Classic, i understand what you're saying, and thank you as well for your insight.
This is what I take, legit and not filled with the garbage. Great price too. Buy it online. Let me guess, a Syntha-6 fan?
No, i think its popular right now though, isn't it? All my protein is from ON. Where online do you get your stuff? Amazon seems to have it at a good price.
First of all, congrats on the weight loss. I went from hovering close to 240 to around the 200-210 range a few years ago and I've managed to keep it off since then. That said, from reading your post, it sounds like your weight loss had a lot to do with cutting processed foods, soft drinks, corn syrup products, starchy foods and eating more fish and vegetables. If you were doing all that, I just don't know how much cutting artificial sweeteners contributed. It's almost like people saying "if you want to lose weight, eat right, exercise, and TAKE THIS PILL." Well, yeah that's probably a good way to go...but the pill won't be the reason you'll lose weight. For the record, I was able to lose my weight and feel better while drinking diet soda. I'm sure water is better (obviously), and I drink a lot of that too, but I just haven't seen any evidence to support the belief that drinking 1 or 2 diet sodas a day is going to give me cancer any time soon.
