I think the question is should the government approach it as a right or as a privilege or is it some blend of both. With any kind of involvement, it gets reduced to a privilege I would think.

That being said, virtually any two adults should be able to marry so that they can enjoy the economic and critical benefits of being viewed as a married couple: tax advantages, retirement, visitation et al.

It doesn't matter whether it is a right or a privilege. If government provides for it then it needs to be provided equally.

You support one type of marriage but are against another. You are dancing around your own words here, peeling away at nuances that are not there.

At some point you are going to have to expose your fear, bias, hate or whatever you want to call it for gays.

A driver's license is a privilege not a right; you have to be of a certain age, complete certain studies and pass certain examinations for example. Privilege implies restriction, doesn't it?

Those same kinds of requirements would not apply to marriage but I don't think "privilege" is as wide open as some want it to be.

On an aside (Daily Show pointed this out)- Is anyone else worried that Americans get involved with politics when eating's involved?

The restrictions for driving are there for safety. That's not the same with marriage restriction involving homosexuals.

If the govt. provides it for one group they need to provide it for the other group as well.

what's your opinion on gays, period?

if you don't have a dog in the race, why does this issue touch such a hot button for you to call out other posters and be so hateful?

are you afraid you will be forced to gay marry someone?

    they sicken me its disgusting

if u want to be gay cool i dont care what u and another man shove eachothers butts thats what u choose and thats ure life. Now that isnt enough they want more things like marriage. Thats when they begin to bother me and the thought of them adopting...oh man...i really feel terrible for the kids id rather be raised by dead beat parents than 2 gay men.

why is this chick-fil-a thing an issue again? oh thats right cause of stupid gay people and their attention whoring. You dont like what the company stands for? cool go eat somewhere else theres tons of other restaurants u can go eat at.

Let me know the day gays stop using gas since u know the same people who provide it kill gays. Let me guess itll never happen

I'm comparing the bigoted opinions that people hold towards both.

People were against interracial marriage for a lot of these same reasons. People aren't against gay marriage because they're afraid it will affect them in any way, they're against it because of religious intolerance/bigotry.

People don't buy gas SOLELY as a political statement against gay people.

Gay people sicken you? That's fine. Don't like gay marriage? Don't get gay married. Pretty simple. Saying that someone should have the RIGHT simply because you find it gross is pathetic and intolerant.

For the record, I'm not gay, and gay sex isn't my thing. Neither are black chicks. Or fat chicks. But they should still have the same right to marry, right?

same sex marriage is about the bond of two people, I dont think anyone has ever shoved anything up anything at a same sex marriage ceremony.

but thanks for clarifying your stance and bringing up the subject of shoving things up butts as you so eloquently imagined and visualized.

to others who oppose same sex marriage- I will assume you agree with the above post unless you want to chime in otherwise...

Heard chick-fil-a is supporting an anti-gay group in Uganda that makes homosexuality punishable by death.

    Uganda is doing it right

I have reviewed your posts and concluded that you, sir, are a gentleman and a scholar and in no way a bigot.

So, yes you are a bigot, who wants to deny a certain group rights, and privileges that another group has.

Thanks for making your bigotry clear for all to see. You're definitely entitled to your opinion, and everyone else is also entitled to call you out for your bigotry.

oh no, i have read every single phrase you uttered on this page alone. your words speak volumes.

i love how you went from "if you want to be gay it's cool" to "kill homosexuals" all the while defending this opinion as not being bigoted.

hey everyone who opposes same sex marriage, this is the voice of your movement right now.

    bwahahahaha keep it up!
