I've been back on the sodas HARD now the past couple months. After being off of them for a couple years. Its straight cuz of depression and being bored and cuz I don't smoke or do any drugs (never have), thats my "kick". I absolutely know its bad, its pathetic but its what it is

I've actually still LOST more weight now than before lol. I've been pouring water in them to greatly to dilute SOME of the effect over time. And I don't consume many daily calories now.

Overally I still don't really don't have a strong addictive feel to caffeine. I just want a liquid consumable with a little taste than regular water and bitter tea. (And I might have that little of that supposed ADHD caffeine "reverse" effect where it makes you more TIRED instead of PEPPED. Only energy drinks really get me jacked. )

I don't drink much soda...a Sprite every now and then and some Jack & Cokes...but I'll never, for the life of me, understand how people drink Mountain Dew. Anything that glows cannot possibly be even remotely not deadly.

How bad is diet coke? I'm trying to cut it out of my diet completely, finding it tough. I know it's not good for you but some scary links giving the true extent might give me that extra push to eradicate it completely.

Wait so does that mean like Orange/Apple juice from the grocery store is bad? I think they're sold right next to each other on the shelf.

Not sure if serious, but yes. At least for most of them. The sugar content is through the roof. you might find some organic/health food store juice that's not so high in sugar that would be better for you. At the very least if you have to drink juice, look for some where it's pure juice without added ingredients like sugar/HFCS, etc.

The key to any diet, IMO, is moderation. It's okay to drink juice or soda occasionally if you drink plenty of water. I'll have a diet DP or a small glass of OJ a couple of times a week, but I don't drink a glass of juice everyday for breakfast and slam 3 or 4 sodas throughout the day.

I quit sodas on a regular bases decades ago.

Having said that, once in a while an ice cold fountain soda is...magical

I think most of that stuff is "from concentrate," so they add the flavor and vitamins back. Still has half the amount of sugar as can of coke too in one glass.

for some reason people think fruit juices are ok because it's 100% fruit. But honestly, your goal should be to reduce sugar, especially in liquid form, at all costs.

i think 4 oz orange juice is like 4 or 5 oranges...but no one eats that many oranges in 1 sitting..

why drink your calories when you are eat them and feel more full?

So, make sure that it is juice, not "drank"?

They did testing on rats a while back comparing the affects of fructose and glucose.

Whenever the rat took in fructose, it amplified its weight gain six times that of the rat that took in glucose. High Fructose Corn Syrup is BAD. You will notice an IMMEDIATE loss of weight in the coming days if you are a heavy drinker of soda and then cut it out of your diet completely.

Now the hit everyone experiences when taking in fructose may vary, but its a proven fact that fructose is TERRIBLE for managing your weight.

    Thank you for sharing this.

I've been off soda pop completely for 2 years. Never drank much of it other than when mixed with Crown Royal or Jack Daniels. Since I stopped drinking hard liquor I don't drink soda at all any more. And I don't miss it a bit. Both my parents are huge Diet Coke drinkers, and both of them are diabetic as hell.

Switched from regular sodas to diet my freshman year in college. I drank 4-6 a day back then so I figured I ought to switch since I wasn't getting the exercise I used to in HS.

Stuck with diet soda for about 8 years after. Cut it out for about 8 months once - I prefer tea anyways.

Got back on the bandwagon, it's easy, had about 0-2 per day.

Recently I've been on them a little harder 2-4 per day if there's no tea around.

No change in mood, energy level, attitude, weight - nothing.

The only thing I'd worry about is cancer from some weird chemical but lets face it, I could get cancer anywhere and I haven't seen any scientific proof that diet sodas cause cancer...

So I'll fight anyone that says diet sodas are bad. "They'll make you crave carbs" -- mental toughness man, c'mon. "Look at the fizz, oh geez, that goes into your stomach!" -- umm, yeah, you know what's even crazier? Stomach acid. Blah, blah, blah, people that cry about diet soda are on some weird high horse they got on from watching too much Oprah and daytime TV. Go drink your vitamin water lulz.

Water and juice are for me. A soda once in a while (I haven't drank one this year yet) and a beer to if I want to sleep faster.
