^^^^^ Different. This is Olympics. They were not tossed out for hitting it out of bounds, serving into the nets etc, but for unsporsman like conduct.
You gave bad examples. 1) The guy was hurt. 2) The guy used a tactic that allow him to win. Hw would have been stupid to go up against your strong suit. It's like Hakeem goes outside taking 3's because they look good.
You keep giving bad examples. Phelps and Lochte swam good enough to qualify for the next rounds. Did they try to come in last? And if I was there I probably would've booed them too. I mean if I go to an NBA game and they just play scrubs I am probably going to boo also. None of that is illegal and I have yet to see a citation that what these teams did was illegal according to Badmitton rules. Except there have been several incidents of athletes or teams choosing not to play a match, last week the North Koreans soccer refused to take the field for more than an hour. To my knowledge the IOC hasn't banned them. As I said before I don't like tanking and fully agree this wasn't in the spirit of competition but out of so many things that you see all the time that are not in the spirit of competition it seems very hypocritical to single these teams out. Also if they are going to sanction someone why sanction these players? Why not sanction the coach who told them to do this or this or the organization?[/QUOTE] The North Korean refused to play because they raised the South Korean flag. How do like all the US athletes playing under Chinese flag?
This. I don't blame North Korea. If I were a South Korean Olympic athlete and the North Korean flag was hoisted? I would refuse to play too. There are some deep physical and emotional scars between the two countries.
1. He still literally and figuratively threw the match. Not in the spirit of competition. 2. Hakeem plays in a team sport. This is a one on one match where the player not only refused to engage with his opponent but ran out of abounds to avoid doing so in the course of the match just to set up a future advantage. Also according to Judo rules going out of bounds while not in the course of action is a minor penalty so this was the equivalent of deliberatley hitting it into the net.
Pretty disgusting to watch the BS ref. It's so hard to take boxing seriously. http://www.nbcolympics.com/news-blogs/boxing/judges-under-fire-amid-fix-claims.html
They did not but they admitted to not giving it their all. In principle that is no different than what the Badminton teams did just in matter of degrees. Whatever the reason refusing to take the field isn't in the spirit of competition.
My understanding is that the rules are the same in the Olympics as they are in regular competition. If they are not I would like to see the citation.
What am I watching on NBC right now?? It looks like a cross between Running Man Meets Roller Derby Meets Cycling on Acid...
This is part of why I am arguing about the situation with the Badminton teams. There is so much other crap going on yet we are going to ban those badminton players for deliberately playing like crap most likely on advice of their coaches and organizations.
I'm still in awe over the finish to the Russia vs Brasil game. I thought Brasil would pull away. The game winner might have been pure luck, but either way, it should have been an and 1 also.
