Dallas will have cap, they dont need sign and grade for him. Cuban built a solid team with their caps space that will easily be in playoffs with dwight. Our squad is a bunch of bench players and rookie. Parsons is the only starter from last season still on the team:(

    Etwaun Moore was waived.

I thought Sean Williams was too.I'm not 100% sure on him.

Dallas will not have as much cap space as everyone is saying.
In order to have Max money for Howard (20mil+), they will have to renounce the rights to all of the guys they have on expiring contracts (Collison, Brand, Kamen, etc), waive Carter (still taking 2mil cap hit), and hope Mayo doesn't pick up his player option.

Rocket River posted an article (post#1363, page 69 of this thread) that got glossed over as more of the same, but the bottom half of the article breaks down how much Dallas's cap space has been exaggerated by the media.

Dwight could walk to Dallas, but unless they can dump Marion's contract before the end of the season, it will be Dwight, Dirk, and a bunch of scrubs.

Say what you will about the Rockets current roster, but a handful of young prospects and some cap room to make some deals trumps 36 year old Dirk and a bunch of minimum contracts.

All the speculations aside, the very basic fact is: If DW is not trade before Feb deadline, we don't lose anything(keep all of our prospects and draft picks); but Magic will lose everything except the distant chance of DW staying.

Now here's my opinion(not fact but I strongly believe): As of now, Martin's expiring, 1 pick, 1 prospect and taking back one bad contract seem to be the best offer available. And it maybe an understatement, which means it's a far better offer than what they can get elsewhere. (Cav's screwed up this draft and last by picking Thompson and Waitors. DMo alone will trump those 2 together at least in today's market).

Why this subject interests people is beyond me. Orlando's lack of interest to deal Howard has extended till perhaps the deadline. Rockets will not rent a player for half a season. So the search is pretty much over for Dwight unless something changes within the next few months before the season starts. Then it goes out the window until he is a free agent unless the asking price comes down significantly for a half year rental. So basically things have to change for the situation to change now. Its pretty much over till then. Its been over for a while now.

The Rockets were quite willing to rent Dwight at the last trade deadline and believed they had a deal for him until the opt-in. Not sure why this coming year would be any different, unless maybe the Rockets are so bad that even acquiring Dwight couldn't make them a postseason team.

That said, most sources connected to the situation expect Orlando to deal Dwight before the season. Nothing's close to "over".

What kind of dumb**** reply is this? You're given facts that make it pretty clear the Rockets are willing to take on a half-year rental of Dwight (mainly due to obtaining his Bird rights) and all you can do is roll your eyes? Do you not actually believe a half-year rental of Dwight by the Rockets was on the table last year?

    This place. SMH.

I doubt if we would be willing to give up as much at the deadline in February as we are willing to give up now.

Which is why I think Orlando makes a deal before the season. There are just too many variables, too many unknowns that could happen during the season that can result in offers getting worse. The Lakers could get off to a great start and realize they don't need to trade Bynum, same with our rooks. Dwight could also run into trouble with his back again. The Magic probably want a top draft pick, and Dwight would get them too many wins. There is also the fact that Dwight will create a toxic atmosphere in the locker room when they are trying to establish a new identity with Vaughn and Hennigan. It just seems like bad business to keep Dwight to start the season.

This. Both of you are exactly right. The Rockets would still be in it during the year, but wouldn't give as much, and that's why this thing gets done in August or September.

By this time do I honestly have to reply to you seriously? I honestly thought 2 years into this subject I could roll my eyes at this subject. Unless your sources are better than mine? Pretty much it says we have played this game for a while now and nothing is happening or close to happening years later.

I agree with you completely but Orlando is known to make some horrible business decisions. Rashard Lewis and Gilbert Arenas to name some of the most recent (was more likely desperation but still pretty pathetic).

Maybe Vaughn and Hennigan will be different but the owner is still there and the Jameer Nelson contract is atrocious. Some could say the same about Lin's contract but the Lin contract certainly wasn't a bad business decision. Especially when you look at the revenue he will bring in.

It would be in Orlando's best interest to move Dwight sooner than later. However, I wouldn't be surprised to see them do something stupid and not get anything for him.

Honestly, if Orlando makes us wait until the trade deadline, I'd tell them to screw off and totally support the youth movement.

A half-season of Dwight won't do anything for us.

We get Dwight now, in the summer, or not at all and let the young guns run.

I don't care if you reply to me as I wasn't the one involved in conversation with you, but your reply was just too ridiculous to pass up. You couldn't pout together a coherent retort? If you're too tired of the subject to carry on then exercise your free will and move along to a different topic.

Regarding The Cat's comments on the half-year rental of Howard by the Rocktes being a possibility this year, who needs sources? We can go by history and comments made by the FO this offseason. We don't need some mysterious source to read between the lines.

Again. The "RESULTS" of the last few years on this subject is all the evidence I needed. I could make a long graph and link of arguments to you and the other guy on why we may not get Howard or keep him. Its already pretty well long and documented history on this subdject that has reached into 2 seasons. I dont see what tired has anything to do with the subject when I see its less likely now. See it nearing his free agency period and his destination preferences.

    So again.
