Well the Blade Runner sequel isn't even in development...he's working on The Counselor for his next project, before going to Blade Runner I presume. A sequel to Prometheus has been speculated, but nothing announced.
Honestly as much as i would love a sequel. I feel it isn't very necessary, because finding 'the' creator is impossible (who created the creator and his creator, its an endless puzzle). Most likely wont figure it out because they already have there hands full with whats at hand as is. The way they ended it keeps an open ended mindset to the movie. Like inception, some people think the wobble kept going but its up to us to decide. All though there are a good amount of questions that need to be answered, i feel there has to be something for us to see. Maybe/Hopefully the directors cut will satisfy.
I BELIEVE I saw somewhere that he was intending on making it part of a trilogy. Don't hold me to that though.
I liked the suspense/drama of the movie but there were some obvious plot holes, flaws or just poorly explained things. Reading through some of the explanations in this thread are a little comical. I'm all for some interpretation and open ended ness of a movie but sometimes it's just lazy storytelling
PROMETHEUS Sequel Targeted for 2014 or 2015 Release Damn. So I guessed we won't be seeing a Blade Runner sequel any time soon only if Ridley decided to direct Prometheus sequel.
With a budget of $130 million not including marketing, is it safe to say that this was a disappointment at the box office with only $125 million at the domestic box office? I realize the foreign BO makes this movie profitable, but judging from the hype in the last 12 months, I thought this would be nearly half of Avatar's box office.
It's around $300Mil total so that's pretty good for an R rated movie. It's still haven't open to all the foreign countries yet. So chances of it making another $20+Mil and you still haven't counted the DVD/Blu-ray sales.
Halfway through the year, only 12 movies have outearned it, despite the R rating. If I am correct, Ted is the only R film to outgross Prometheus. FOX, not the most forgiving studio out there, already greenlighting the sequel should speak volumes to how it performed vs expectations. It seems clear that the notion of a sequel was there for some time (Fassbender and Rapace were contracted to return), and the studio almost certainly had a financial bar for Prometheus to hit to get the sequel OK. Lindelof stepping out...I doubt anyone's crying about that development.
Yea, I thought they were trying too hard to be deep and meaning with Prometheus. In the end, it was just convoluted. It would've been enough just to explain the origins of the Space Jockey and Alien without tying it with the creation of humans.
Given the number of crappy films churned out each year, I'd happily take a sequel to a visually stunning space movie despite it being a letdown. However, I really liked Prometheus even with its flaws so I'm happy for a sequel.
Ah thanks for the info. It feels like it's been a while since Prometheus came out so to hear how there's still countries left makes me happy as an American moviegoer.
I don't think you can really look at worldwide box office because from what I understand, studios don't get much of that revenue at all. Eh I really wish he'd move onto other things. I loved Prometheus, but it's story is done. I don't care so much where David and Shaw go; I like the open ended nature of it. Just give me a director's cut and be done with it.
Mostly they get half, some countries a little less. The worldwide advertising for a film this size is in the neighborhood of $50 - $100 mill. So your looking at about $200 million spent in total. But you have to factor in world DVD, Cable and TV sales. So it might turn in a small profit in the end. A squeal is unwarranted. Word of mouth killed Prometheus to the tune of a 60% drop off its second week. Only the most die hard Scott and Alien stans are defending it.

yeahhhh i know right. time for transformers 4 for the masses. (rolleyes are not for you. its for the fact this movie didnt make more money)
The movie sucked. That's why it didn't make more money. Poor casting of supporting characters, bad dialogue and a plot that was all over the place is what people saw when they went to the theaters for this one and it showed in the numbers. If anything, I think a lot of folks (like me) tried really hard to like it because of the franchise and director but the movie can only be defended to a point before reality hits.
How is Shaw going to breathe and eat flying off in an alien spaceship with David the robot's head? First, we assume she was able to re-attach his head to his body because she must be a robotic expert. all she needs is a phillip's head screwdriver. Second, I guess we assume she took the provisions from the capsule that was ejected...cause she didn't run out of there scared as hell carrying only one bag and I'm sure she was itching to return for more with that octopusslien flopping around. Or, worse, the alien weirdo juvenile that spawned. but, I still have a hard time buying that they just flew off in an alien spaceship like that. zippity doo dah...lets go fly to some other planets in this alien spacecraft while i think about what i'm going to do when i run out of food and air. she can always eat those worms or have black jelly caviar. i'm sure david the headless roboto found a way to put her into alien chambered cryogenic sleep. enough already! damn you, ridley scott!
