To all my Austin CF bretheren: I have to attend a training class Sept. 4th - 6th in Austin (specifically, near Lake Travis Hudson Bend area). I want to stay downtown close to 6th street so I can walk to the area bars and eateries. My questions: How bad would traffic be from downtown to Hudson Bend in the mornings, and then again in the afternoon? Would it be better to stay close to the training site and drive into town at night?

And finally, who is up for a NFL opening night ClutchFans get together on Wednesday, September 5th? Where is the best place?

4th street is better for the 30+ crowd.

Traffic wouldn't necessarily be bad as you'd be going opposite of rush hour. Still, it's a drive from downtown out to that area and there is no good way of getting there. Probably 35-45 minutes, or more if there is any traffic.

That's a 30 minute drive without traffic. You've got 3 ways to get there from Mopac:

Bee Caves to 71 to 620
71 (out past the Y in Oak Hill) to 620
    2222 to 620

All present their traffic challenges. From downtown I'd probably take Bee Caves. Leave early though.

Traffic will suck in the afternoon, so just be prepared for that. I moved here last year and I still can't get over how much the mopac royally sucks in the evenings. I lived right near downtown up until a few months ago.

As for where to watch the game, Lavaca Street Bar is the official watch party location for Texans games. I started going there towards the end of last season, but it was a great atmosphere and I'm definitely going to be there for Texans games this year. Probably won't be quite as happening for other teams, but I still think it's a good place to catch a game. It's downtown, so should be convenient for you. I'd be down to head down there if we can get a group together.

The drive doesn't sound too bad. I'd rather be stuck in traffic for a while than have to drive back to the hotel late at night after drinking.

You forgot the 4th and probably best way.

Mopac to Southwest Parkway to 71 to 620.

Southwest Parkway lets you skip a lot of traffic and lights that Bee Caves would have, and a TON of traffic that going 71 through the Y would have. I'm not as familiar with how traffic is on 2222, but I've got to imagine it's pretty bad during rush hour.

We have a nazi DUI police chief so be careful if you plan on drinking and driving.
