Please do so -- I voted for Cruz last week during early voting. Voter turnout in non-presidential elections is really low, but turnout in primary run-offs is incredibly low. I'd expect single-digit turnout, maybe 5%. So your vote does in fact matter here. The Dems are mounting no serious challenge to the seat in November, so you are picking the next US Senator from Texas.
Both of these guys are coming off as Grade A pieces of s***. As for the issues, if you ask either of them about anything, it's just a race to see who can be more anti-Obama. Crap on immigrants, rail about god, guns, and gays. Typical Republican dogwhistle playbook.
Isn't he Cuban? Cubans are the acceptable hispanics because they earned their stripes running away from Castro.
I promise you this is going to be shortlived. The Republicans have so successfully gerrymandered the state that they're turning on each other, something the Democrats did pretty well in the 60s and 70s in Texas. Lloyd Bentsen turning on Ralph Yarborough was the beginning of the Democratic descent into political infighting and it was only by the grace of having a couple of really strong politicians in Ann Richards and Bob Bullock did the Dems make it as long as they did. The Republicans have started their descent with the crazy infighting going on. It isn't just Dewhurst/Cruz. Jeff Wentworth, who's been in the Senate for over 20 years, is going through the same battle. (and will also likely lose) Many in the House have already been victims in the primary. This pattern isn't sustainable on a long term basis. There will be recoil and a push back towards the center. And it will have to come from Democrats since Republicans are wiping out the center from their party. As problems continue to surface in Texas, Republicans don't even have the Dems as a scapegoat anymore. The Democrats have been out of power for a decade now and the ability to ride the wave of what was a historically successful series of governments through the Bush years in Texas are over. If the Democrats wake up and run an effective party this trend could start now but seeing as how they have chosen not to, it will happen a lot slower. But I assure you it will happen.
rofl i looked up both of these guys online. TRIPLE OUR BORDER BUDGET TO KEEP ILLEGALS OUT, TED CRUZ GOT MY SON KILLED a matter of dumb and dumber. pick the lesser of two poisons

polls close at 7pm but I think El Paso is an hour behind results here http://enr.sos.state.tx.us/enr/results/july31_162_state.htm
Looks like incumbents got wrecked up and down on the Republican side of the primary. Senator Wentworth (moderate pro-choice Republican) got annihilated by the tea party The tea party takeover of the Republican Party is now complete. It's only going to get worse in Texas government.
I don't recall any negative ads from Cruz so congrats to him on running a clean campaign against Dewhurst (who demonstrated that he and his team were nothing but sleaze). Non-stop negative ads during the Olympics = political suicide.
Dewhurst deserved to lose for underestimating the intelligence of the Texas voter. His blatantly pathetic attack ads did him in. Glad to see the voters of Texas proved to be more savvy than his campaign people predicted.
Cruz is a major victory for the Koch Brothers and their ilk in the .1%. A true class warrior for them. His backers are Palin, Demint, Rand and Ron Paul and the most obstructionist folks in the GOP. Hope we can keep the public libraries and the Interstate Highway system repaired. Watch out folks who don't have enough money to send their kids to public schools. As even conservative icon George Will said about his type of extremist. "Does not play well with others" In the short run it won't matter too much, for as as we saw for instance in a such recent votes as the one to to have a bit of transparency in super pac donations, and a vote to help students lower their loan payments, all Republicans are voting the party line.
Yeah, my vote wasn't necessarily for Cruz as much as it was against that dirtbag Dewhurst. That ad in the OP that's been shown on every channel every commercial break for the last 2 weeks finally got Cruz my vote. Nice going, Dewhurst.
Not only was that ad in poor taste, but who the hell tries to use the sympathy/empathy ploy to win the conservative vote? You don't bust out some silly sob story to win them over, they'll just roll their eyes, especially one as ridiculous as that. For-profit-prisons and a corrupt judicial system focused on punishment and not rehabilitation played a part in your son killing himself? Well gee golly, I bet that just upsets Republicans so much!
I knew it was a mistake for him to run for governor and not this position. Could have been a real shot at a Democratic senator.
A Democrat running for Senate in Texas during a Presidential election cycle is toast. Bill White was obviously aware of that.
