haha, basically ancestry.com did a study on his history and through his mom's side he is related to the first documented slave.
The whole idea of "black" didn't really exist in popular consciousness until the early stages of the 18th century, and it didn't become "race" until some time after that. In the Americas, white laborers and black laborers were separated by laws that privileged whites over blacks, and the lawmakers often did this out of fear that laborers (servant or slave) would join together and agitate.
LOL. In all seriousness, how is this NOT the most interesting thing about Obama? I mean not only is he the first non-white President, he was an actual slave descendent. Slow progress, but progress nonetheless. I don't agree with his policies, but I am proud of our country and hope we continue to take leaps when it comes to tolerance and acceptance.

If one goes back far enough, anybody can trace an ancestral relationship to just about anybody else, regardless of race, color or creed.
