Asking Mark Cuban to [promise to] trade him to the Nets if the Mavs plans fail will be just as successful as asking the Magic to [promise to] trade him to the Nets if he opted in.

'Rob! Come on Rob! Alex Martins, Otis Smith and the previous regime said they would accompany me and trade me where I wanted to go if I opted in! Those f-ers blackmailed me!'

Stop it. Everyone wants Howard at the right cost. At this point, you would be butt-hurt at losing White and Jones for Howard. Stop being a homer.

You're asking badlee to be rational? He's been trolling this thread the whole time. He probably thinks every Rockets rookie will become a superstar, and Howard would run away at the end of the season screaming on national TV "I HATE HOUSTON!!!!"

Not a homer. Just more excited about youth and not constant drama.

Magic drafted howard and they spend time to develop him too, it is hard for magic to part with him.

Mavs have nothing to lose Dirk is going to retire in 1 or 2 years. I can see Mark Cuban not make agreed with Howard, even he will only get a 1st draft pick in return.

Hasn't he been saying that already??
Besides, i'm sure he doesn't hate Houston as much as you do. Seeing as you want him to come here and destroy the team by setting us back more.

Right bc trading for a washed up 26 year old superstar takes away from our youth. Get a grip.

No, he hasn't. His "camp" has been saying (notice how he never comments himself?) that he "respects McHale and Houston, but won't re-sign here". If he really hated Houston he would say it from his own mouth.

Do you know why he doesn't? Because he knows he will probably be traded here and he doesn't want to say something he's going to regret later... when he re-signs because he's not willing to flush $30M down the drain.

You know why his "camp" keeps saying he won't re-sign? His agent, Dan Fegan, is desperately trying to leverage Dwight into being traded to LA or Brooklyn because agents get a higher %% of endorsement money and Dwight gets more endorsements in a large market. Fegan needs to get it done now because he knows once Dwight is in Houston the large markets are closed to him.

Wouldn't this be a good enough reason to leave 30 mil in Houston?

No because he can't get to those markets unless he is traded there. Fegan already knows the Rockets won't play ball, that's why these comments are out there.

So which market larger than Houston will be able to sign Dwight next summer for more than the $3 mil exception?

Also, Dwight already opted in @ Orlando because he wanted the $30M. If he was willing to leave that money on the table in order to go to a large market he would be a Brooklyn Net right now. He's bluffing, he is not willing to forego that big of a paycheck for his endorsement deals whatever they may be. (Contrary to popular belief the exact $ amount of his potential endorsement deals has not been reliably reported anywhere.)

Mike Fisher throws out whacky ideas from "inside" the AAC all the time. I think he's a step above Bill Ingram, but a long ways from Clutch as far as knowing things. Dallasbasketball.com is his version of Clutchfans, and you can see him schilling things on there all the time - premium access, endorsements, etc. I think he likes to think he's an insider, likes to speculate on future stuff, and likes to drive web hits and for people to watch/listen to him when he's on the air. I think this article is his way of speculating while driving web traffic. We've had folks (like Bima) go through the Mavs cap scenario. With Dirk taking up so much of their cap, having already used their amnesty, and not a lot of attractive "assets," I don't see how they can trade for a D12 or CP3 much less sign one and field a team under the current rules. Even if they cut/trade all their players, they still have to use the roster cap holds when figuring in salary cap room.

It will likely make 30 mil look like pennies.

You still haven't answered the question. What market substantially larger than Houston could Dwight go to next summer for $30 million less?

Im not really sure what your getting at here.

    About players giving up money-

Im not really sure who you are referring to here, but in most cases players will take the best available contract to maximize their salary. You can give me a few cases like the Lebron/Wade/Bosh 600K they collectively "gave up" to come together in Miami, and I will be quick to let you know how much money they are truely "giving up" given the circumstances.

As for the Cuban/Dwight handshake deal-

There is no way in hell that an NBA owner, GM, and their attorney would write into an NBA contract a guaranteed trade in year 3 based on performance of the team.

Thats the most absurd thing Ive heard on this board in awhile.

If you are talking about a back room (illegal) handshake deal then thats equally absurd.

Im sick of this attitude on the board about Mark Cuban and his magic powers as an owner/semi-GM. If this guy is so great then why isn't Deron Williams back in Dallas right now? Yes, he is one of the better owners in the NBA, and has F-the man attitude that some people either love or hate. I get it, but its time to realize that he now has to operate under the same rules and infrastructure as every other NBA owner/GM.

Mike Fisher has always been irritating to me. Personally I never found him even remotely credible.
