We are talking about the same team that gave Rashard Lewis 5 years, $75 million. They have Turkoglu and other terrible contracts and they recently amnestied Gilbert Arenas. Thorpe handed out contracts and made trades that reeked of desperation.

They don't know what they're doing. Once Dwight gets a taste of Houston things might work out for the best. If he signs 5 years with Dallas Dirk will be 38 in the third year of his contract.

I think it will be a close run for Rox and Mavs. Mark Cuban has a much deeper pockets than Les, and Rick Carlisle has proven himself to be one of the best coach in the NBA too. It is too that we have a young roster, but to Howard any unproven players are scrubs ... The concern is how Morey will turn our remaining assets to a roster that Howard think we will have a chance in the midseason.

I believe in the end season if he perceives the rox as:
one of the top 5 teams in the league: likely stay
    between 6-7: indifferent
8 or below: demand a trade or else walk to mavs

More likely he will ask Mark Cuban to make a whole bunch of promises which including trading him to Net cheap if they fail to rebuild in 1 or 2 years before he sign.

I somewhat agree with your point in that the Rox organization will have a lot of convincing to do if they acquire Howard by way of multiple personal conversation with Morey & Les as well as make strong moves to build a winning team now. That might mean mortgaging young rookies/prospects to acquire all stars now.

I don't think it'll be as close as you might think though in that the Rockets can have these direct conversations with howard once they acquire him vs. "guessing" or hearing from third parties what Cuban can/wants to do until next years free agency. A lot can happen in that time to build trust and confidence in the direction of an organization and to minimize the opportunities he might perceive to exist in Dallas.

LMAO you speak as if it's fact. There is a chance Dwight leaves. Maybe the rockets flame out with Dwight, first round and out or worst. It can happen. Maybe they don't put the team around Dwight that he wants.

Not talking about OremLK, but in general, people are so convinced one way or the other.

Count me as someone that thinks Dwight is just using Dallas as leverage but has no real interest in playing there.

    Right about the leverage part.

Interest in player there???.... maybe some, but enough interest to leave 30 mil guaranteed????... logic says probably not.

The Rockets will flame out because they won't be able to put a team around him in time. Pretty much setting them up for a 2nd round exit.

There are too many solid players willing to be paid 3-5m less just to join a good team over a long term contract they are expected to paid close to 20m less. Giving up 30m seems to be impossible for a normal human being, yet to Howard, I will say a considerable mount but not a must.

Additionally, Howard can sign a long term with Mavs to retain the bird right(not losing 30m). He can ask Mark Cuban to promise trading him to the net after 2 year if he fail to rebuild. Mark Cuban will have a hard time to refuse Howard, well which old team doesn't want a FREE Howard even it is for 2 years only.

OMG, Can we please get this crap over with? Maybe it's that we've got a personal stake in this but wow it sure feels like the longest, most painful, trade scenario ever.

It doesn't matter whether you believe me or not. What matters is do you believe Howard(or reports)saying that he will not resign. Of course you don't because you want Howard no matter the cost. I just think we would do better without all of the drama.

Again, I'm not saying he will definitely walk, but he has the opinion to walk, and I think it will be close a fight between rox and mavs.

I might be a close fight if the Mavs had his bird rights, which they won't.

It's not close because the Rockets will be able to offer him $30M more, and money talks.
