Death blow??? http://www.superherohype.com/news/articles/128944-darren-aronofsky-no-longer-directing-the-wolverine
Depends on who they replace them with, can't be worse than the first film but I was expecting something special from Darren.
This movie was supposed to take place in Japan. I assume they were set to start filming this year and I wonder how the quake/tsunami/nuclear meltdowns have affected their plans. I know he and Rachel Weisz are getting divorced, so that may have something to do with it. The last time this happened and the excuse of family was given was when Matthew Vaughn (Kick Ass, X-Men: First Class) dropped out of X-3. The real reason was the crappy script and the time crunch.
Translation: I'm drinking the hollywood kool-aid; I'm an A-list director and can't stoop to do a comic book movie. Ciao.
I'd love to say that I have a hard time imagining this after what Nolen did with Batman, but nothing Hollywood does/thinks really surprises me.
That sucks but that is also some serious stuff he's dealing with. Hope he gets it all taken care of and comes back to direct in the X-universe sometime in the future.
Yep, freaking James Bond. I had a thing for Weisz during the Mummy movies, not that I don't now but haven't seen her much of her in the past few years.
It looks pretty decent, I'm a fanboy so a few things aren't quite right for me but I usually go in with an open mind to these types of movies. I was really hoping to see Darren's vision of Wolverine because I had read he was going to take it away from what the other X-Men movies had/will do. It was going to go in its own direction but I guess the script is still in tact so hopefully a adequate director can take hold of it.
I guess I shouldn't be surprised. One of the big stories around X-Men First Class is the fact that they are or were still filming recently even though the movie is slated for release very soon. Matthew Vaughn had walked off of X-3 for the same reason before he even started filming. Back then he was an up and coming director with a great movie under his belt and was in a position to find a better project. Now he has Stardust and Kick-Ass added to his filmography, and while Kick-Ass was great it didn't even make $50 million at the domestic box office. I guess not having a hugely successful movie made him more willing to let Fox boss him around as long as he was making a decent amount of money. Aronofsky doesn't have a big money making film under his belt either, but he's had some Oscar noms go his way. His resume still gives him the backbone to not let suits involve themselves creatively in a movie. http://www.cinemablend.com/new/The-...nofsky-Isn-t-Directing-Wolverine-2-23723.html
FOX is the second worst studio to work for behind Universal. Black Swan has made $275 million internationally and $105 domestically. More than Narnia and Date Night, FOX's two money makers for 2010.
The Wolverine filming now; some behind the scenes chaff: <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/ydQxfHcnZto" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
