NBATV is showing the celtics game vs detroit in which mchale scored his career high 56 points .. for those who dont agree that mchale was a great player or not sure what he could do in the post should check it out
Kevin McHale is one of the 5-10 most skilled players ever in the post. He was a franchise calibur player that made sacrifices to blend in with Bird, Parish, Ainge, Walton, Maxwell etc. The guy even agreed to come off the bench.
if i hadnt read multiple people write that he wasnt elite than i would not have made those comments .. clearly I said it bc there have been people on this site that have claimed he was not good just and example of that is the thread talking where asik commented that he is looking forward to working with mchale, check out that thread most of the discussion is around how accurate that statement was
I always felt that Larry Bird elevated the game of Parrish, McHale, and DJ. This clouded my worth on them as stand alone players. His numbers and highlights would tell me that he is a GREAT player though.
Yeah, shooting jumpers from the perimeter without their defenders being allowed to hand-check. McHale had to bang in the post probably the toughest generation of front-court players.
So does it not count because it was mostly jumpers??? Not discounting McHale here, but c'mon dude 57 points in an NBA game is impressive regardless of how you got it. Michael Redd made 18 shots, and only 6 of them were 3 pt makes. Which means that he used 12 made baskets plus free throws to score the other 39pts. I wish we had someone on our team right now that could score 57 pts in a game (this season). Michael Redd's shot chart from said game: http://scores.espn.go.com/nba/shotchart?gameId=261111015
I'm not sure why people say he is an awful, Rockets roster last year was just a bit better than the year b4: no better than a 8-9 seed roster. Definitely, he wasn't doing a outstanding job like Popo, but he wasn't awful either. Some blamed him for missing an easy entry the playoff last year, but it was also he gave us that hope in the first half of the season. People saying McHale isn't in our long term plan is even more irrelevant, Chris Finch hasn't proven himself to the players yet. Even Stan Van Gundy who has named the best eastern coach once, Dwight just went up to the management and asked them to fire him. Unlike McHale, Chris Finch is a high character guy who can make the all-stars listen to him, and I'm not convinced Chris Finch will be our next head coach unless we go to a fully rebuild mode.
The only chance I can see Chris Finch would be our head is when we ship Lamb or DMo to Magic and Dwight or bynum is not resigning with us.
Now I"ll defend Stack and Mr. Redd's 57 pt games as being impressive, but whoa whoa whoa....Top 50 List? Which top 50 List is that? They were good, but I doubt either one of them are on the list of Top 50 or make it to the HOF...
