http://testyourvocab.com/ I ended up knowing only 24,000 words. Only 2,000 over average for my age (granted that nobody embellished their score lol).
Ha my score sucked. I just assumed the more Spanish I learned, my mind had to forget some of the English .
We've done this before. http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=207288 I got 20,200 words this time around. I am a Spanish native speaker. I have been in the United States of America learning English since 1987.
I was at 21,600 which is pretty sad. Some of the words I looked up just for wtf are they. Natter? Why not say chatter!!
Having a fancy vocabulary isn't everything. At least I can school some of these pretentious intellectuals on the basketball court!
I can't do that either. I can uh... Burp the ABCs, where does that get me in life? Oh ya selling cars...
26,900 Pretty worthless IMO. Lots of the words are useless and have no real function or real application. Some of those words have never been heard of by anyone
haha. i felt like highschool didn't teach me crap. preparing me for college? pfft....good luck taking 7 classes a semester in college
Read books - fiction and non-fiction. Basically just read a bunch. All a higher score says is that someone was either one of the fortunate people few who was exposed to books from an early age, has consistently had the free time to read, or is older. The breakdown based on SAT scores is interesting in that it goes to show you how much of an advantage the privilege of being exposed to books as a child gives you. It's not surprising that one of the largest indicators of upward mobility is how many books your parents had in the house when you were a kid.
5 volumes of ASOIAF and barely hit average for my age. If this was based on vocabulary for describing fictional medieval garb, it'd be another story.
