Ticket touts disgrace: Row upon row of empty seats... as tickets sent to foreign VIPs go on the black market Interesting article about the horrid attendance so far
I don't know much about swimming, but Lochte to me seems really slow in the freestyle. In the 4x100, the other 3 guys built a whole body length lead, and he got blown by by the French swimmer. Maybe Lochte is just mostly hype?
Lochte strength is his versatility. He's not a spectacular freestyle swimmer. But he is solid in every stroke, so he dominates the Medleys. He's already won the 400 IM, he'll probably also win the 200 IM. We dominate the 200 relay, so he'll get another gold there. He'll also be strong contender in the 200 backstroke. 5 medals, 3 maybe 4 golds, thats a damn good olympics, despite choking in the relay.
I have a question, why does the US use the total medal count instead of the standard Gold medal count when placing countries? Surely 6 bronze mdedals are not worth more than 5 gold medals. Even at the NCAA track and field or swimming events 1st place and third place are not worth the same thing.
Its not just us, but i never understood it either. The medal count is kinda contrived anyhow. Sports like basketball with 24 athletes get sent only account for 2 medals, while a good swimmer or gymnast can win 4 or 5 all by themselves.
USA will use whichever one makes them look better. If they trail in golds but have more total medals, they'll use total medals, and viceversa
The only thing is the rest of the world pretty much use one standard. Sort of the like the rest of the world uses the metric system and we use the English system. I actually think a 5 3 1 system is pretty good.
We have a bunch of things we're still favored in. Team sports, especially. It'll be a close race for the gold if the U.S. doesn't get upset in some of these team sports.
Not very good. Liu Xiang is probably the best chance to get gold, but he is probably passed his prime a while ago. I would say 3 medals in the entire track and field is reasonable. US is going to dominate the total medal count, but close call for total gold.
I wonder why they call the lifting competition the clean and jerk, I always thought the clean come after the jerk.
Yeah, it looks like Lochte isn't that good anyway. The should use her time and compare it against other men who were faster.
Liu Xiang has Houston connections...he trained at Rice following a surgery http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/sports/2009-02/12/content_7469377.htm
