It's apparent he's rather oblivious to how he comes across when quoted. He doesn't give Lin enough credit, assuming because of similarities in their backgrounds he''ll automatically replicate what Lin has done. You wonder how much of it is because of the presentation by the NY media in a certain light to create artificial tension, but then again, those were his words. He sure comes off as not giving Lin much respect, and I'm being unbiased.

7 pages in this discussion? It's a tabloid paper.

No wonder NY Daily is the 4th most widely circulated daily newspaper in the United States. They sure know how to create a good stir. Everyone loves gossips!

That definitely is a part of it I am sure. Some guys don't want to live under Lin's shadow and some guys will use what he did to try and get some press around themselves. It happens.

Why rag on him because he has the confidence to think he can reach Lin's level or better?

Man you people fell for it. Just like the New York media wanted you to. Its too easy with you guys. Of course there will always be controversy concerning Lin when its concerned with that city now What else would you expect them to write about?

I don't see anything wrong with what Machado thinks, but he's got to be a little more intelligent about what he says. A New York paper with an obvious agenda asks him about the new face of his potential team and he can't give a more diplomatic answer?

I have a question. There is no edit function after you post something?

Exactly, internalized racism. This kid is probably too young to understand. It's ethnocentrism based off of a society that ridicules others for not speaking a 2nd language perfectly.

Why didn't he compare himself to Douglas instead of Lin? Douglas also has that NY connection. Douglas must have a much better college career than him and Douglas even got drafted in the 1st round. Lol.

I wonder who is a better point guard out of Scott Machado and Wizard point guard Shelvin Mack?

I hope this guy should realize that his competition for minutes is Douglas, not Lin. If he's that confident about himself, then he should not settle himself to become the next Lin, might as well compare himself to Nash. I think he had a better college career than Nash as well.

At least Shelvin Mack proved that he can play as a second string PG.

Dude obviously is jealous of the deal Lin got with the Rockets. He probably thinks if he proves himself somewhere like NY that he'll strike a similar deal (LOL).

Plus I'm betting NY media just loves hurling steaming bags of hate poo at the Rockets, out of spite.

Machado - being undrafted and unsigned - needs to first and foremost work on how he can improve his basketball skills before thinking about the starter position that he thinks he's entitled to have. SMH. Just look at his numbers in the summer league.

    MPG FG% 3p% FT% SPG PPG
    25.4 0.38 0.28 0.50 5.6 8.0

These are some of his stats in the summer league against other rookies. How would he do in real NBA games against starters or even bench players who are faster, stronger, more creative and, in general, much more skilled and experienced than him? Machado needs a lot development before he's ready to play effectively against NBA starters. In general, from what I saw in the summer league, Machado didn't stand out against the other rookies. He's a bit slow and can't score effectively or efficiently. He chucked up shots and then couldn't make free throws (50% from the free throw line isn't good enough, not especially for a PG). There were a few good passes he made but, in general, nothing that really blew me away. And being only a good passer isn't sufficient anymore. Nowadays, the league is looking more for point guards who can both score AND pass (e.g., DRose, Westbrook, Parker, Irving, Wall, Dragic just to name a few).

There's probably a good reason why no NBA team drafted him. Again, from what I saw, Machado has a long, long ways to go before he's ready to play as a starter. Right now, at best, I see him as a 3rd string PG. Even in the summer league against other rookies, he's an inefficient player and didn't stand out or dominate.

With what Machado said in the article, there's a difference between being confident versus acting arrogant. He did not put up impressive numbers and didn’t wow or excite me with his performance in the summer league. And then he has the nerve to turn around and say, "It would be fun for a while [backing Lin up], but I wouldn’t like it...“I’ll back him up if I have to". To me, these words don't show confidence. What they show is someone who is immature, self-centred, arrogant, and not a team-first kind of player.
