I can't imagine us trading him for anyone other than Bynum, if it comes to that.

The only way I can see the Rockets trading Howard at all is if he throws a complete temper tantrum when he gets here or milks his back injury to ridiculous extents because he's mad at us, but I can't see that happening. Dwight should be aware that his legacy is pretty bleh right now, and to openly do something like that would make things even worse.

The ROckets *could* sign and trade him, but he has to agree to the sign and trade since he *does* have to sign the contract in order for it to be done.

and if he does, he wont get the maximum years and raises, so I don't see him doing that unless he absolutely wants to go to the team he is being traded to....but still, there's the matter of the lower raise percentages and lack of the 5th year.

    remember, under the new CBA:

Signing a new contract with his current team gets him max 5 yr contract with 7.5% yearly raises

Signing in FA or in a sign and trade gets him max 4 yr contract and 4.5% yearly raises.

This has to be the most excruciating off-season in a long while.

If we do trade for Dwight,I hope Morey has a plan to get a 2nd star.Dwight wants to win right now so we have to have a team that can compete for a title.

Agreed. Lin has yet to show all-star value; his name does mean something in the league, but I don't think it's enough to keep Howard waiting.

Lamb and Motie have the potential to develop into all-stars sure, but Howard probably just sees them just as talentless rooks.

We need somebody like Iguadola or Josh Smith, somebody with some hype to their name, and has backed it up in the ASG.

Does anyone have any idea how we could get these guys, presuming we trade, say Martin, Patterson or Morris, and Terrance Jones along with a few picks?

Amnestying Gasol would be a game changer. They would then be able to take back alot more bad contracts from Orlando. The lakers would just need a third team to throw in picks to make a deal work.

Yeah agree Iggy/Smith/Gay should be targets if we trade for Dwight.

I wonder what could have possibly changed in the last couple of days for someone to feel that way. Seeing as how the only thing that has changed recently is that we have signed our rookies (which doesn't mean very much).

But there's one thing this Dwight saga has told me is that you must take EVERYTHING with a grain of salt, everyone has their own agenda. Including the Magic who obviously want more of an offer than what we offered the first time.

Not that I'm pushing one way or the other, but if Houston presents the best package then I would think they could land Dwight. Of course I'm guessing they are reluctant to let their rookies and too many draft picks go since they could wind up with nothing next summer. I still would not mind picking up Bynum in the deal but who knows what is really on the table and how much of this is just more noise from the talking heads?
