Strange that baseball and golf(at this time) are not Olympic sports, but badminton and ping pong are Olympic sports. What about Darts?
Agree about golf, but baseball is no world-wide sport, it's more a US thing. No one would care about it outside of the USA and some other baseball fans. Don't underestimate badminton and ping pong, these sports have an old tradition and are popular all over the world.
popular where? In college break rooms and PE classes? it's a good way for some of the Asian countries to pad their medal count, though
They are popular sports world wide. That is why baseball/softball were eliminated, not enough "universality," apparently. It is what it is. I definitely think they need to get rid of ping pong.
Ping Pong is big world-wide and has a huge club and competition/tournament scene. And don't reduce it to Asia.
Really Ryan Seacrest interviewing the Phelps family? Enough of the shmaltz already and show some more DAMN COMPETITION!
Get used to it. The Olympics during prime time is interviews, commercials, and a few highlights of American athletes.
I know but having Ryan Seacrest rehashing a story that has been done several several times before is a new low for NBC. I am really curious how much ratings research in regard to how much showing the human interest stories adds to the ratings?
Look if you have a problem with ping pong and badminton, how about so many different races for swimming. My golee, how many ways can one get gold In swimming, 50m, 100m, 200m, 400m for every style and ASIC that's not enough there are IM races. Same goes for track. If they had their ways, they could have made races for runnin or swimming backwards, running on one foot, hands tied on the back.
Golf isn't a sport. Sports are played by athletes. If you don't have to be an athlete to compete, it's not a sport. Golf isn't a sport.
Golf is going to be in the 2016 Olympics. Baseball might be in the 2020 Olympics along with Softball.
