Three basic things could happen with regard to our pursuit of Dwight Howard. I know there are permutations, three-team trades involving Bynum or others, a wait for the trade deadline that changes the weather entirely, etc. But let's leave out all those possibilities for a moment and consider the three basic things that could happen if Dwight is moved in the off-season.

    1. Dwight Howard does not become a Houston Rocket this year
    2. Howard becomes a Rocket this year and re-signs with the Rockets long-term
    3. Howard becomes a Rocket this year and bolts at year's end

Personally I am beginning to lean toward option one, that we'll lose out on making the trade at all as Morey's Rockets typically have when it comes to superstars, so I am voting that way. But if I didn't I'd vote option 3, in which case I hope it's option 1 instead.

I have never put serious stock in the idea that Dwight would come here and re-sign long-term. He has done everything in his power to avoid coming here.

Where's the 4th option that says "OMG, another D.Howard thread"?.....

Anyway, I think he'll to his disappointment become a Rocket and count the days until free agency when he officially bolts.

    Bynum will be the pivot.

While Rockets fans wait for news of the Howard situation to know literally anything about who will even be on our team next year, I've been surprised to come here each day and not find a GARM with nothing BUT Howard threads.

Nothing else even much merits consideration until the Howard situation is resolved.

We can talk all day about our new rookies or our salary cap or about McHale or whatever, but literally every single one of those things changes the day we reach the end of this purgatorial Howard hunt.

Howard forces his way to LA with 3-way. LA takes on bad contract, also includes Jordan Hill on value contract, Houston gives up slightly less than for Howard. Houston more confident Bynum resigns long-term.

If I had to guess, I'd say I doubt either option 2 or 3 will happen. If anything, I could see a three-way trade with Bynum coming here and Howard going to the Lakers. Wish option two would happen, but I just don't see it.

Look at it from Howard's perspective. Why would he want to play with Asik, Lin, and a bunch of rookies??? Talent-wise, this is a far cry from some of the Magic teams he has been on. And I seriously doubt he is interested in a re-building project. Unless Rockets get a legitimate start or two, Howard will have absolutely no interest in playing for the Houston Rockets. he is going to half-ass it even if he were here.

I don't see Howard half assing it to be honest. He may intend to bolt but he is still a competitor and a professional. Plus he has to prove that he is healthy and can perform post surgery so that he can maximize his next salary.

Basically no one has a clue. Why start a thread about a matter that is devoid of facts and only dependent on everyone's misguided opinion????????

I voted number 3, because of Les.
I still don't think he has the discipline to wait it out, instead of going for an unhealthy and unwilling Dwight.
I want number 1 to happen.

I'd like to know how clutchfans feels about the Dwightmare

I like this poll but what I really wanna know is if people really want Dwight or not?

    Vote:

    Yes Dwight or Bust baby.
Dwight would be cool as long as we don't over pay even if he leaves.
Dwight would be great if we don't over pay and he stays.
I hope we don't sign him no matter what.
I wish the Dwightmare would go away.
I live under a rock and don't know don't care.

I'm in the don't overpay and he needs to stay group.

I don't know. Probably because his alternative is to play with a 37yr old Dirk and a bunch of crap in Dallas(not LA/NY) for $30mil less than what he can get from Houston in guaranteed money.

Or he could take the MLE in LA or NY. You tell me if you're Dwight Howard, do you want to be the guy making less than Ron Artest to be the Lakers center? Or make 20% of what Brook Lopez make in BK to start there?

I think you are underestimating Dallas to be honest. And convincing Howard to stay in Houston is a possibility but it is not guarantee. Isn't Atlanta also at play as well?

Neither is anything else in life. At least I prefer a possibility that involved a top-5 NBA player than one where I pray every year that my team gets a top-3 lottery pick.
