I'm a Southerner and a Christian. I don't hate on either. I am firmly against a lack of education. However, I don't just assume that a statement against lack of education is a blanket statement against the South in general. It's telling that you do associate the two together. What a shame. I'm a little shocked, but you've revealed your mindset, and it's an insult to Southerners.
he did... with regard to statistics showing the lack of education. You're the one who made the jump to it being a blanket statement against the whole South. You've shown your mindset. No more needs to be said.
Leave it to you to turn a thread about racism against the blacks into a thread about racism against the whites. New day, same story.
Churches have every right to exercise bigotry in their decisions as to whom to marry. It might not always be the case that they will remain eligible for federal funding of any sort if this particular discrimination becomes illegal under federal law but I doubt that it will as that would really be pressing the separation of church and state as well as religious freedom. Churches have the right to ban: - Black marriages - White marriages - Gay marriages - Interracial marriages - Inter-faith marriages Et cetera. And none of the above examples would represent a greater bigotry than any of the others. That's okay. Churches are absolutely allowed to engage in bigoted behavior. That freedom (as in the freedom to burn the flag) is enshrined in our founding documents and is one of the most important among the reasons for founding this nation in the first place. That doesn't mean I don't think they're racist assholes; of COURSE they are. And my right to express that, and my feelings about the bigotry that motivates anti-marriage equality opposition, is also among those most important of reasons.
Batman Jones probably creamed his pants when he had the opportunity to bash Christians. how depressing, brah
I love how you have now interjected yourself into a thread that you admitted to not even reading the story or having knowledge of the facts. sadly and admittedly I knew you would comment here, and sure enough you have revealed yourself as the troll, arguing with what you see as "typical liberal" behavior for the sake of arguing. YOU'RE just trolling bigtexxx. you are mad that so called liberal posters are mad that a predominantly white congregation refuses to allow a black couple to marry in their church. hypocritical so called Christians like the one in the OP (which you didn't view) deserve it. the church members in MY congregation would never allow such bigoted behavior, and a pastor surely wouldn't allow it either... but hey, thanks for the disclaimer that you don't discriminate based on race, like it needed to be broadcast ...
I don't have a reply to your post, only to the one you quoted. When you quote bigtexxx an angel loses her wings. And I have to read a user I placed on ignore because he kept baiting me, like this, as the troll he is. I have posted extensively on Christianity and my feelings toward religion in general. Anyone familiar with my posts in these arenas knows that, though I am an atheist, I long to have faith in something bigger than myself; that I am a great believer in the teachings of Christ as I understand them, teachings always of love, never of hate; and that I am sensitive to and envious of believers. I just don't like bigotry or hypocrisy. Jesus wouldn't either.
Hardly. What's clear is your willingness to ignore context. You apply a lack of basic education (context) in your posts, and then also use it demean all Southerners in regards to lack of education. Shame on you texxx.
Lack of education? Get off your high horse.... Can you hunt? Do you know how to rebuild a transmission? Do you know how to raise and husband farm animals? Do you know how to clean and use a rifle? Do you know how to build a roof? Do you know how to dress a turkey? Do you know how to dig a well? Hell you are so stupid that you don't know how to find clean water, grow your food or slaughter your fowl! So sick of this high and mighty bull ****. Take it to another thread... This thread is about a church does doesn't want to marry a black couple. I don't agree with it, but it is a private club, they can do what they want, as articulated by Thurgood Marshall.
Hold on there, Nook. I think you got the wrong idea. I do in fact know how to do a number of those things, and come from a family that does almost all of those. In fact they make their living doing many of those things you listed. So to assume that I don't do those things or value those things or think I'm above people who do do those things, is barking up the wrong tree. I'm sorry if I gave the wrong impression. I understand how it could have happened if you take very much of what I say in response to texxx, or Trader seriously. It's mostly done as if it's a game, because that's their posting style. So I respond playing the same game. The church is allowed to be bigoted, and I believe other Christians in the area should react to their bigoted nature, and publicize and criticize that bigotry. Both are allowed in our nation and protected under the constitution. I responded to someone else's post about lack of education. It's nothing that I brought up. It was already brought up and I responded. But I really responded to was texxx's idea that if someone was talking about a lack of education they must be talking about the South in general. I took exception to that. I didn't insult anyone, or any of the things you've listed. I'm still not entirely sure where you drew the opinion of me that you seem to have drawn, but it is what it is.
