As it relates to the salary cap, the dollar amount is $8 million/year for us, and any team we trade him (them - Lin/Asik) to. In terms of real dollars, there is a $15 million balloon payment in year three... Real money.

Honestly I've tried to do this same thing in the past and it was pretty hard to rank them then I realized what's the point. First of all it doesn't matter how we rank them. Second, every GM in the league may rank them differently based on what they need more for their team.

    Lamb - Superstar potential

Parsons - Already an elite defender, Chandler's J is on the come AND in the second half, we saw him drive to the hoop more.......initiating the offense. I expect we'll see him start to finish at a higher clip this year. And, just as important as any of this......Parsons is a leader.

D-Mo - I'm not taking anything away from him by putting him 3. It's obvious how hard he's worked on his game ...will learn from the best here. He'll fill out and get stronger.....big man with big game. Man, can he move up and down that court...

Martin - BIG expiring who is probably gone before the season starts .....Still, he could really raise his value if he stays...In the final analysis for me, I really don't want him anywhere near Jeremy Lamb.

Omer - Asik should put up at least 10, 10 , and 3 in his first year as a Rocket. He'll provide that consistent interior D and rebounding we've been lacking for so long.

White - Rolls Royce oozes talent ..... Another forward that can handle the rock....makes me think of Magic at times with his court vision and passing ability. His versatility/adaptability/enforcer/leadership qualities are off the charts. I know there are those that think he'll have a hard time translating his abilities to the NBA. It's the opposite IMO. He's a nightmare to matchup with and should blow up in the Association. As with Jeremy, one of the biggest steals in the draft.

Patterson - Coming off the injury, PPat steps it up this year.

Lin - Les's cash cow and "star magnet" .......Dragic is going to have a much better career.

Jones -protypical PF, looked great in the Summer League, but remember ...TJ already has that NBA ready body, was able to bull some smaller players....Still, passes the eye test so far/ was hidden on that great Kentucky team. I wonder about his upside....Either way, I expect him to have a long career.

It is hard to say someone has superstar potential when they have yet to step foot on an NBA court but I do feel you he does have game and room for growth. I agree with pretty much everything you said though particularly about the rookies. I disagreed with your assessment on Lin, and the Dragic statement but I am not even going to bother. All in all neat analysis.

D-Mo, height, length, skill, attitude, sky is the limit
    Lamb, unspeakable potential
Lin, only 23 and ready to prove his doubters wrong
Martin, only 30, in his prime, can still pour it in, expiring
Asik, legit rim protector, every team covets them
Parsons, selected with the 38th pick, unbelievable
    Jones
    White

It's too much of a close call.... all young and full of talent.
    Same with the players.

TY... and the most cash we can give in a deal is 3M... which means any team trading for Lin or Asik will be paying 12M (plus our 3M) for the last year of their contract - which does provide a negative aspect to their contract...

plus nobody else stepped up and offered to sign either to a more lucrative offer sheet... so how great a value do either truly have as an asset on the open market?

The value of the players to other teams depends on which team it is that would be trading for them.

    D-Mo is worth the most.

Left handed seven footers with a proven set of post moves and soft touch are hard to come by.

I only list the top four and dont list the rookies, at least not yet. Top four are the core of this team. If they play well in their respective role, I expect rookies will follow suit.

    1. Chandler Parsons - A tremendous two way player for the price.

    2. Jeremy Lin - Pivotal to Houston success. If he plays anywhere near the first few games of Linsanity, it's playoff. If he has too many inconsistent games with high TOs, it's lottery. He is the most influential player on the team. No other player on this roster can singlehandedly win (or lose) games like Lin.

    3. Omer Asik - Pivotal to Houston's defense. If he stays out of foul trouble and play well in the paint, he can also singlehandly hold games close.

    4. Kevin Martin - Still an offensive threat with good efficiency. He rank right up there with Courtney.

Thanks. Don't get me wrong. As a Rockets fan, I'd love to eat a big helping of crow regarding Jeremy Lin. I DO think he'll have a long career as a solid starting PG (good pull up J, pick and roll machine, but lacking on D w/ too many TO's)....I'm admittedly a bit bias/leery due my feelings about Les and his motivations (which IMO led him to overpay for Lin instead of reupping Goran. (who took over and led us to wins over the best in the West) I'm obviously very high on Dragic and believe he will thrive in the desert.....
I guess,to me, Jeremy Lin signals the end of any "rebuild" ( no matter what propaganda/negotiating tactics come out of the Rockets), and is a guarantee of a "reload".... I'd rather have the former.

Either way, as Raven said....Let's hope he proves me wrong on the hardwood.

Wait, why is signing a 24 year old Jeremy Lin reloading instead of rebuilding?

He's no Dragic, but he'll be a very good pure point guard with good size. I think he's shooting will improve.

    Aruba,
I think if you examine Les's history and listen to the trade winds, it's a huge tell. This is a $$$ commitment, that if we were rebuilding wouldn't be made.
This all fits Les's modus operandi. He's in his element in this day and age with teams of stars being thrown together, agents, shoe contracts, all that dough, instant gratification, etc. Les is a businessman, who wants to expand his global connections/visibility.
I know some might see it as a PR cover for a rebuild (or the real thing), but I'm of the opinion that Bynum/Dwight are coming, along with another move.
I hope I'm wrong, but I see Les going ALL IN for NOW vs. rebuilding/ instilling that culture from the ground up......one we can ALL grow with.

No doubt that's been his MO up to this point, but i have faith that if we do end up making a deal for Dwight/Bynum, we won't be giving up all of our young talent. Morey's smart enough not to give up more than he has to, and we won't have to mortgage our future to make this deal. And if we don't make a deal, I'm happy watching the young guns play.
