He knows his days in the NBA are numbered, so he pays more attention to his account balances.

They also live really different lifestyles. They have different financial demands that fans can't even realize. And I don't even think his salary is that much in comparison to other NBA players.

Said the guy who has poor money skills. Regardless of how much you make you should still be smart about your money. That equals even more money to do/buy things with. Not just throw it in the trash.

He signed a 5 year 8 million dollar contract. 4k is still only 48k yearly. I'm sure as a percentage of income, he's spending less on living than most everyone in America.

Superstars get crazy ad money. Role players do not. Ad money may cancel the tax advantage.

48k a year is still a lot of money. I'm sure he didn't necessarily have to have an apartment for that much though. I know a few people living in New York that have nice apartments spending way less. Maybe there's places recommended by the NBA for the players to stay.

I'm quite sure as a 1st round pick, he had a 2-yr guaranteed deal + team options on his next two years. The Rockets can cut him this offseason if they wish without further financial obligations. So indeed, this may be his last year at making $1+mil salary. If he does well as a backup, he'll get his option picked up for another year at 1-2mil. And then if he still performs, he'll be a RFA and actually get a decent 2nd contract.

OTOH, if he flounders this year, he'll likely get a minimum salary next year and possibly no more guaranteed contract after that. So it's actually very smart of him to live as frugal as possible. While working on his game enough to ensure he has a market as a RFA in two years.

I like Toney Douglas. He's not a pure PG but he plays great defense and he can score. I wouldn't be surprised to see him and Lin play together. Two seasons ago he did average 10.6pts, 3ast, and 3rebs.

Tony is a nice guy based on my obervation from all the knicks game, but he does not have lots of play time , he is not as good as two years ago.

Except for paying for a lawyer, agent and/or financial advisor, what sort of financial demands do they have that fans don't realize (and I would think that most fans realize they pay for those services).

Toney Douglas might be the best perimeter defender in the NBA.

    Wasted away in Dantoni's system.

You guys are going to be amazed when you actually watch him play.
