+1 for honesty (7:30 mark on third clip):

"Listen, it's ridiculous. When I was in New York, I was spending almost $4,000 a month in my living, and that doesn't include parking -- an extra $250 a month in parking. It's ridiculous. When I got here, I was so excited... I'm going to be saving so much money!"

Nice. Maybe he and Lin can get a studio apartment together and save a lot more.

Plus he'll save like 6.85% in state income tax and another 3.65% in city income tax.

That is about $115K per year in salary he'll save, or about $10,000 per month.

That would be the equivalent (@4% and 30 years) of the mortgage payment for a 2.1 million dollar house.

It's not quite that simple a calculation. I think its proportioned by games & their location, so the tax benefit is only for the half he plays in TX

It is important for him since he will really need to turn around his game to get himself another NBA contract. Was a decent enough combo guard in his 1st two seasons, but last year was really bad.

So we have a distinct advantage in recruiting role players and benchwarmers.

to be honest, I really thought getting him was a moot point. This guy is super nice and seems like he is a hard worker. understands that he needs to earn his minutes, even on this young team. im down with Toney Douglas on this roster now. thanks clutch!!

Yep. If he plays in any tax free state, mo money. That is not true from some money grabbing states. If he was a Hawk, he'd have to pay GA state taxes for every game - even in TX.

Yes Last year was really bad. Hopefully he can get back to contribute in some capacity.

I'm surprised that an nba player is worried about spending 4000 a month...

With his salary, he can easily handle that

Establishing good spending habits while in the NBA is going to work wonders for him after his NBA career is over. You'd be surprised how frugal real millionaires are.

Yes....because somehow the same advantage doesn't apply to all players in the NBA. If you are a star that comes to Houston, you have to inexplicably pay more money to live....and saving money is no longer an advantage.....................................

Why saving money might not mean as much to superstars, the advantage remains. No matter what way you slice it.
