Wow.. that looked amazing. Makes me want to read the book. Is this a feel good story of some sort, for those who have read it?

No, and the movie looks like its trying to impart much more explicit and (frankly) lame philosophy onto the original story.

I loved the book, but never thought it was movie material (the structure of the storytelling is what made it such a great read).

    mixed feelings about the trailer.

confusing looking movie....that doesn't seem to know what it is....and how to appeal to the potential audience.

I liked the trailer. It didn't seem like it was 5 minutes. And, frankly, I have no idea the specifics of the plot. Clearly it has something to do with different times and different stories (love stories?), but to what extent or how it all fits, I have no idea.

Granted, if down poorly, that's exactly the type of movie that can suck.

And while certainly the Wachowski concerns have merit, the cast of this movie is literally unbelievable.

The trailer made me very interested in it, and I'd never heard of it before.

Rumors that Larry (now Lana) was a cross-dresser or transitioning gender spread in the early 2000s, though neither sibling has spoken directly on the subject.[5] According to Rotten Tomatoes, after Speed Racer Larry completed sexual reassignment surgery and became Lana.[6] The Hollywood Reporter and the New York Times have referred to the Wachowskis as "Andy and Lana (formerly Larry) Wachowski",[7][8] and Deadline.com has referred to the duo as "Andy and Lana Wachowski."[9] On some documents she appears as Laurenca Wachowski.[5][10][11] In the 2012 documentary Side by Side, she is interviewed and credited as Lana Wachowski.[12]

And here's pictures following the transformation:

The trailer definitely had me scratching my head but it piqued my interest enough to want to know more. It has a pretty stellar cast and more than capable crew. Run Lola Run is an awesome movie and I think the Wachowski's are maybe a bit better than given credit for as the Matrix Trilogy as a whole was certainly good (first one was the best but the sequels were still good in their own right) and I liked Speed Racer as just a fun movie, nothing more. V was pretty good but forgettable. Though I think I have more faith in this film being good with Tom Tykwer attached.

And agree on the trailer not feeling like 5 minutes. When you have a movie that has so many different storylines, I guess you need to cut it that long.

People tend to get the Wachowski's directorial history mixed up. Outside of The Matrix trilogy, they only directed Speed Racer and Bound. The other movies mentioned in this thread they have contributed to by writing and/or producing, but the finished product was out of their hands.

So if you didn't like V or Ninja Assassin, it's not fair to put blame squarely on the Wachowski's shoulders like you could for the Matrix sequels (which were great, IMO) or Speed Racer (eh).

All of that said, I do worry about Larry/Lana's input into anything. Not sure that he/she is playing with a full deck.

If you believe the rumours, in this case I do, then the Wochowski's pretty much directed V but Warner Bros did not want Larry doing interviews mid transformation. So they gave directing credits James McTeigue who up untill then only did second unit stuff.

Incidently, it was on the set of V that Natalie Portman gave the book to the Wochowskis.

Here's an interesting, but long, article on the W brothers and Cloud Atlas.

    http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2012/09/10/120910fa_fact_hemon?currentPage=all

Looks like the article came out on September 10, 2012. either this article is also from the future, or it is going to be part of a future print edition?

Tom Hanks hair when he is in the lab coat pretty much ruins the film for me.
