I wouldn't help the Lakers get Howard unless they are sending Gasol to Orlando. That keeps them from having a Big 4, it allows them to get saddled with the Orlando bad contracts, and it gives Orlando a really good trade chip for the upcoming deadline or next offseason. Plus, they can only get PPat and Morris, none of our Rookies. Why? Because F them, that's why.

Something like this, plus we keep the Toronto pick, they can have the other one.

That's the kind of hardball Orlando deserves for trying to get Howard to stay when the writing was on the wall and for making promises instead of running their own business, they screwed themselves and should consider themselves lucky to get this deal.

Thanks dude. I try to recognize well thought out responses and react appropriately to them. The critic was spot on.

If that isn't enough for Orlando to tell Dwight to get over himself, and get on the first plane to Houston, I don't know what is.

I can almost assure you Howard wasn't promised that. Why would the magic make that promise?

Who knows wtf was promised by Thorpe and Martin. Martin is sharp but declining fast. Thorpe was an underhanded GM who, through incompetence and mismanagement, dealt the Magic into a franchise black hole. Hennigan has a brutal job trying to put the Magic franchise back together.

Kobe/Nash/Gasol departures would certainly create a vacuum for other stars..

    Andrew Bynum

A list of the most memorable centers and power forwards of the past 35 years organized by their first six regular seasons for “games played,” “games missed” and “number of seasons in which they played 90 percent of the games.”

    Dwight Howard: 489 — 3 — 6
    Karl Malone: 489 — 3 — 6
    Tim Duncan: 451 — 9 — 5
    David Robinson: 475 — 17 — 5
    Kevin McHale: 475 — 17 — 5
    Charles Barkley: 472 — 20 — 6
    Dikembe Mutombo: 471 –21 — 5
    Robert Parish: 469 — 23 — 5
    Hakeem Olajuwon: 468 — 24 — 5
    Kareem Abdul-Jabbar: 467 — 25 — 5
    Dirk Nowitzki: 444 — 48 — 5
    Kevin Garnett: 442 — 50 — 5
    Patrick Ewing: 438 — 54 — 4
    Moses Malone: 428 — 66 — 4
    Alonzo Mourning: 409 — 83 — 2
    Shaquille O’Neal: 408 — 84 — 2
    Yao Ming: 404 — 88 — 3
    Ralph Sampson: 395 — 97 — 3
    Chris Webber: 329 — 131 — 1
    Andrew Bynum: 309 — 169 — 1
    Bill Walton: 223 — 269 — 0
    Sam Bowie: 207 — 285 — 1
    Greg Oden: 82 — 266 — 0

What jumps out? First, the durable guys remained durable throughout their careers, with just one exception: McHale, who ruined the second half of his career by bravely (and some would say foolishly) playing on a broken foot in the 1987 playoffs.

Second, anyone who missed more than 80 games and couldn’t play in 90 percent of the games in at least four of their first six seasons went on to have injury-plagued careers. (That includes Shaq, who played more than 68 games in a season just six times and missed an average of 18 games per season.)

third, if you can’t stay on the court at your youngest/healthiest/freshest/most energetic, it’s a pretty safe bet that things won’t change as you get older. It’s straight DNA: Some dudes are structurally built for 82-game NBA seasons, others aren’t. So if you make the argument “If Bynum can stay healthy, he’s a franchise center,” just make sure you also mention that we have 35 years of evidence that there’s a tipping point when “If he can stay healthy …” becomes “… he’s not going to stay healthy.” We’re there with Andrew Bynum. He’s not going to stay healthy. If I were the Lakers, I would trade him right now.

...which is exactly what they're trying to do, find somebody stupid enough to take him back and send enough parts to facilitate Dwight Howard in a Lakers uniform.

Let's not be that chump. Go for the main prize, Howard, who has that exact proven track record of being durable.

    Hennigan's goals should be:

    1) to get the best deal that includes getting rid unwanted contracts, collecting young players, and getting draft picks.

    2) to suck next year and get the most ping pong balls

    3) not give a rat's @ss about dwight and his wants

    4) send howard to the western conference

    5) spitefully refuse to send dwight to his favorite destinations

Time's running out for bynum - Just Say No !

    Andrew Bynum
Has there ever been a better "We'd be selling high if we traded him right now" example? From 2007 through 2011, Bynum played 35, 50, 65 and 54 games. Miraculously, he's played 35 consecutive games this season … in a lockout-shortened season, no less! We keep hearing that Jimmy Dolan 2.0 (a.k.a. Jimmy Buss)3 won't trade Bynum because that's his guy, but man, wouldn't it make sense to flip a healthy-right-now-at-this-moment Bynum for a point guard and/or multiple pieces for one last three-year run behind Kobe and Gasol? What am I missing? Could you get Lowry, Chase Budinger and Luis Scola for him? What about Nash and Gortat? What about Danny Granger and Roy Hibbert? What about Josh Smith, Zaza Pachulia and Jeff Teague? What about Elton Brand, Nik Vucevic and Evan Turner for Bynum and cap fodder? What about … ?

You have to ask yourselves why the Lakers are so desperate to get Dwight Howard. They must be fools if they think we'll bite on to the offer of Bynum, taking on terrible contracts and in the process just help them get Dwight Howard. The Lakers make out like bandits if this happens.

I hate to disagree but Bynum, with the associated risks is still a top 10 - 15 player in the NBA. IMHO you cannot put a value on him. However of course if Howard is injury free it is easy to put a value on him. Only behind LBJ and KD. I do not have enough data to do a risk/reward analysis, but I feel sure Morey does.

Note the date of that article. He's played in basically 100% of games (save suspensions) since. Get back to me with updated figures.

If we don't get Dwight I'd trade Patterson, Morris and Fortson for Big Baby. Magic sheads some salary and we get a nice big at a good price.
