Stumble on this video and thought to myself. Could the 713 host the Olympics and would you guys be for it? <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/SQnF9bD4k8U" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
If you're asking whether the city is capable, the question is absolutely, positively yes. They provided the most sensible bid with the most compact area between venues of any other American city...including having a ton of the facilities all connected by the same light rail line.
281 could, 832 could, not sure if serious about 713. I also pray we never do. The traffic around my area would be a freaking nightmare every damn day.
How is everyone going to get around? Take the buses that never run on schedule and are stuck in jams. Take the light rail that goes 6 miles. Give them all cars causing even bigger jams? Our metro sucks.
The Olympics went to Atlanta so why not? Honestly why not just put together some super huge Texas bid so not one city shoulders the brunt of the cost but all benefit. Get away from one host city, scrambling to build venues that will only be used once, shouldering all the cost, running up a deficit. You can use Dallas, Austin, SA and Houston. That'd be pretty sweet.
There was a bid submitted...with a very extensive plan. I'm sure you can find it online and judge for yourself.
Dallas' bid had Olympic events in Oklahoma as I recall. Houston's bid went out as far as College Station, as I recall.
We'd do a better job than most places, but the Olympic Committee would never bring it here. We don't have the right cachet.
I think this would be the most appealing way to present to the olympic committee. A "Texas" olympics would be pretty easy to sell imo.
Yeah..the question of WOULD we get it is different than the question of COULD we accomodate it. I thought the latter question was being asked and not the former.
Man the mother #$*&^$#%(*^ 2012 London soccer games are in GLASGOW, SCOTLAND ... so I think we can get Austin and Beaumont to help with some venues (but not Ducking Fallas).
