Bynum is not going to take a $30 million paycut to leave the Lakers (or a team he gives assurances to) for the Rockets.
I don't think Bynum is a "max" max guy, if that makes sense. I dont mind paying him that 14/15/16 value, but I would have serious hesitations about paying him over 20 mil / yr in the later stages of his contract. More likely than not he gets traded to Orlando and then walks.
Orlando has zero interest in Bynum for multiple well-stated reasons. There's a bigger chance of Dwight issuing a statement tonight that he wants to be a Rocket than there is of that scenario. Either Bynum will stay with the Lakers, who have no issues about money (note Gasol's deal paying him $20 mil/yr), or he'll be moved to a third team in a Howard trade (Cleveland?) who would view him as a centerpiece and offer him a max deal to re-sign. Bynum is not going to legitimately be on the market next summer.
I predict if Houston pulls out, Howard is ultimately swapped for Bynum out of desperation. Cleveland just doesn't have anything to trade. Lopez is a 9-11 million dollar player IMO Hibbert is a 12-13 million dollar player IMO
In the rocketscast one of the guys said Howard to LA, Pau and Bynum to Houston and picks and young prospects to Orlando.
I don't think either Morey or Hennigan are that dumb. Morey won't ever pull out - he knows the value of a superstar - and Hennigan is extremely well-trained from OKC. Nothing's going to happen out of desperation. Compare that to the contracts they actually got - each the absolute max from their respective teams. Whether Bynum deserves it or not, he's going to get his absolute max, too - which is why Houston going after him in free agency (assuming no trade beforehand) is a pointless endeavor.
No way... Pau is staying from what I heard in LA and those 2 make 37 million combined if not more. Can't really happen.
I was just listening to it. It was Friedman and Ackerman discussing it. They said that if the Rockets are going to facilitate a trade for Howard to LA, then the Rockets should get more than Bynum in return. They should demand Pau as well and that LA should swallow the bad contracts of Orlando. It was ackerman that suggested it, but that is just his opinion. Friedman said that he would go young build through the draft and take the lumps.
than it should go something lke this Pau goes to Magic, Bynum to Houston, small young package to Orlando + draft picks and LA gets Supergirl and the bad contracts from LA
Lets not lump dumb and desperate in the same bucket. Hennigan, no matter how well trained is stuck between a rock and a hard place. If Houston backs out, thier options are essentially: 1.) Straight up for Bynum 2.) Lopez and a couple late picks 3.) Let him walk I think, extension or no, they end up taking back Bynum, who has shown disdain for Orlando and never voiced any interest in staying. Well Hibbert got lower max, as we was signed and subsequently matched, which I would be fine paying for Bynum. Lopez got lower max too, or maybe his is just low because of his number of years in the league. Again, Im fine with paying Bynum good money, but him making 22 million dollars 3-4 years down the line is a recipe for disaster.
But the reality is larsv that MAX-max is exactly what Bynum is going to get paid on the basis of his abilities alone. I agree it's far too much risk for a guy like Bynum due to his injury history... and that's exactly why we should NOT trade for Bynum and should stay focused on the real prize, Dwight Howard.
I Would prefer Howard to la, Bynum to Memphis, pau/marc to Houston. Don't know if it's possible though.
Just as talented IMHO, however I think Bynum is a bit more physical, which gives him the advantage and makes him the btter player. Also just because Hibbert/Lopez were overpaid, does not mean we have to overpay as well. Again, let me be clear, I have no problem offering an expiring Bynum the non bird max. I would not trade for him and lock him up for full bird right max. Perhaps if we still had Dragic, Martin, Scola to round out the team, but I think thats puts us right back at 14th pick year in and year out with no way to get better.
