I understand. Like I said, him going to Dallas IS A BLUFF. Just saying... His agent found a team to use that will HAVE the cap space and is a division rival as well... All a ploy to scare Houston.
It's an obvious bluff, as most of us said immediately upon hearing it last night. Daryl Morey would be an idiot to be "scared" by that, and I don't think he is.
Bynum will help this team regardless... All I have said all along is I would rather have Bynum instead of NOTHING. Even with Dwight this team can't compete with the Lakers or Thunder, so it doesn't matter.
the guy has been blowing smoke all offseason. and if you look at his options in free agency there is no way he is going to make up the $57MM he'd be leaving on the table by signing elsewhere. Dallas, Atlanta and Cleveland aren't exactly media hot beds... my only real concern with Howard is his back...if that checks out then lets roll the dice
Now Orlando has their coach, they are hiring Vaughn, so maybe after this Orlando can start actually suiting offers for Dwight.
are you of the impression there wouldn't be other dominos to fall this season if we were to acquire Dwight?
Because we believe in our hearts that once he is here, it won't take long for him to change his mind and embrace Houston. He could be KING of this town, which is simply not going to be true in LA or NY.
That is the impression everyone not on clutchfans has. In their minds, our team will just be a bunch of young rooks and Dwight, and that we expect him to sign on to that next year.
As Deckard said in another thread...I can take a maxed out ahole on my team but I can't take a maxed out ahole in a suit on my team. I'd rather have my picks than Bynum and so would Orlando or we wouldn't be having this conversation.
Totally disagree. I think the Rockets would rather have the draft picks, players, and cap space then Bynum and shaky knees. Hell you said so yourself "even with Dwight they can't compete" so why make the deal for BYNUM (who's a lesser player)? It's Dwight or rebuild for the Rockets....book it.
does not compute... won't houston still have the same kev martin expiring, bevy of rookies, future #1 and #2 draft picks, and capspace to absorb garbage contracts? wouldn't they be able to trades some portion of that for a good player who doesn't have busted knees? wouldn't that be > 'NOTHING'?
Once he gets here you will see all the fans gather behind him.. He will have a huge fan base when he arrives for his press conference.. we think he will have a change of heart
Winner winner chicken dinner!!! Excellent post. What if all those assets you would be giving up for Bynum now could net you a combo of 2-3 players at the deadline or next offseason. The Rockets have the assets and plan wait this out for something better. I don't see Bynum as the "game changer" it would take to give up all that in one deal.
If we can't compete with Howard then we definitely can't compete with Bynum. And Bynum is injury prone.
Man, do you know how many people have been traded in the NBA or any sport for that matter, that didn't want to be, but made the best of it and in the end, was GLAD they got traded? Many, many times. Look, if you are a VP with a company and you want to promote a guy and transfer him 'cause he's the best man for the position. You go to him and tell him this is what's happening. If he tells you "man, thank you, but I just bought a house here, my kids like the schools, I'm not sure I'm interested"..... You are still going to do everything you can to make that move happen - 'cause it's in the best interest of the company. It likely goes down as you sweeten the pot for the guy or whatever it takes to make it worth it to him. (now, if he eventually responds with "man, I told you - I don't want to go - if you send me, I'll quit" or "Man, if you send me, I'll blow up the company building", then you might come up with an alternative plan...lol. This is where things might be getting to with Dwight, by the way....) But, until it reaches THAT point, the point of "it's just not worth it", you go all out for what is best for the company (or franchise in this case).
I want no part of trading for Bynum. Keep our young guys, get two top ten picks next year, then sign Bynum with your cap space next offseason. Lin / Machaddo Lamb Parsons / Morris Jones / Motiejunas Bynum / Asik + 2 top ten picks sounds much better to me than gutting the roster to trade for Bynum now.
