It's an ESPN Insider article, and I'm no Chris (speaking of "insider"; bu-wa-ha-ha-ha) Broussard ("Duh-WIGHT"). I only posted the Rockets' part (#3 on "Fallers" list).

    3. Houston Rockets
Lin should make the Rockets plenty of money. The question is whether he will win them more games. There are folks around the league who are skeptical. One Eastern Conference GM told me this about Houston's acquisitions of Lin and Asik, each of whom was signed to a three-year, $25.1 million deal: "They paid $50 million for two bench guys."

Well, they won't be bench guys in Houston. And that's the problem. A lot of the league's talent evaluators view Lin as a backup. While that remains to be seen, I like Goran Dragic and Kyle Lowry, both of whom the Rockets got rid of this summer, better than him right now. Perhaps Lin will shine in Kevin McHale's pick-and-roll-heavy offense, but I don't see him becoming the star that he looked like for two months in New York.

And Asik? I love him as a backup or on a power-packed team like Miami where his only responsibility is to play big. But Houston will call on him for much more, and I doubt he can deliver. He's no Marcin Gortat! (Never thought you'd hear that phrase?) And he's no Luis Scola, either, whom the Rockets used the amnesty clause on this offseason despite the fact that he was their best big man last season.

The bottom line is that I love GM Daryl Morey's aggressiveness. He was the early star of draft week, acquiring picks to make a play for Howard. But when it didn't pan out, he was left with three mid-first-round picks in a draft heavy on role players. And if he can't find a way to acquire Howard or Bynum this summer, the Rockets won't even be as good as they were last season, when they failed to make the playoffs for the third straight season.

One reason Morey is so desperate to land a star -- he's one of the few GMs willing to trade for Howard or Bynum without a long-term commitment from either player -- is because he's come to realize that you need stars to win big in this league. Well, as of now, the Rockets have a roster replete with role players and its biggest star is Lin.

I can't disagree with him except for the fact that Lin and Asik are will be solid starters and not bench players.

I'm not mad at the moves morey has made but anyone disagreeing with this assesment is naive. Asik and Lin aren't bad pickups, but when they're the focal point of your team you have a problem. Hopefully by next year they won't be so we won't have any problems...

Anything written by Broussard is more likely a sinker/floater than a riser/faller.

If only one could argue with that idiot at ESPN...
It's hard to see how one would call Lin a backup. Maybe he's not as good as Lowry or Dragic NOW, but he's definitely starter material in my eyes. We'll have to see if Asik can handle big minutes. Chris really doesn't give any explanation as to why he thinks Asik can't handle it. And he bashes us for letting Scola go...sorry, does he not understand that our players were keeping us locked at #14 for 3 straight years?

Lin, Martin, Parsons have all proven to be starter level. It really depends on how well the PF and C play. BUT, Chris should know that we're not going into the season with this roster Dwight or no Dwight. We've got other trades coming. I don't think we start the season with Ppat or Dmo as our starting PF.

... plays a few game before declaring Morey's moves a success or failure?

I don't believe this writer knew who Gortat is before Morey tried to sign him.

he didn't bash us for letting scola go what are you reading? He was comparing asik to the starters before him, no where in that article did he bash us. Some of you guys will hate on anything thats written/said about us that isn't positive.....

Yeah, remember when they said Gortat was too much for 6M? Sorry, but a lot of these analysts don't have the time to follow every single player in the league, and they aren't aware how good/bad each player actually is. Our best players probably won't be Lin or Asik, but IMHO it'll be either one of the rooks, DMo or Parsons. Parsons in particular is ready for a breakout year, I expect him to catapult to Lowry territory next year.

what I'm saying is he isn't forecasting what these players could become he's speaking on what they are right now and a lot of the gm's(who know more than analysts) share the same opinions. Parsons is a great role player on a good team, it's not that any of our players are bad/not good pieces. You guys expectations for what they can become are just exaggerated imo....

The fact that he cited an unnamed GM (The Knicks? Lol) as the reason why our guys are bench players material. But in Lin's case, at least 3 nba head coaches (D'Antoni, Woodson and McHale) made or will make him a starter.

How he's not forecasting when Lin's a starter in every game since his breakout, but he said he's bench player material?
