This. The guy's a hard worker, smart, and tough. He doesn't have the size, but I still think he'll have a solid career. Maybe as a backup, but he'll be a good one.
I know it's the Air Raid offense, but if your worst game of the year has you throwing for 373 yards, 61.2% cmp, that ain't bad.
Low end competition? Southern Miss really exposed him? A couple more things: Pac-10/12 vs. UCLA (2011): 30-40 (75%), 310 yards, 2 TDs -- WIN SEC vs. Mississippi State (2009): 39-52 (75%), 434 yards, 4 TDs Big 12 vs. #5 Oklahoma State (2009): 32-46 (70%), 366 yards, 3 Passing TD, 1 Rushing TD -- WIN vs. Oklahoma State (2008): 35-61 (57%), 387 yards, 4 passing TD, 81 rushing yards -- LOSS vs. Texas Tech (2009): 38-58 (66%), 435 yards, 1 passing TD, 1 Rushing TD -- WIN Big 10 vs. Penn State (2011), #5 defense: 45-69 (65%), 532 yards, 3 passing TD You know, fiction is fun, but I think the reference section is much more enlightening. Just sayin'.
texans with schaub starting: 7-3 texans with TJ Yates starting: 3-3 And that noodle arm got 4,700 yards during one season, and 4,370 yards in other season.
Right. Southern Miss "EXPOSED" Case Keenum, even though he had 373 yards and 2 TDs, right? BECAUSE KEENUM IS THE ONE WHO GAVE UP 49 POINTS. Give me a break. His height is a legit concern. His arm strength is a legit concern. These are the main reasons why he wasn't drafted. But his track record against the big conference teams that UH played is fantastic, and his intangibles are off the charts. Comments like "he didn't play anyone" and "USM exposed him" aren't consistent with reality.
sure. keenum is a rookie. but given a couple years, and if shaub goes down, and yates starts his bad passing again, you'll be begging for coach to at least try keenum.
Seriously. The only thing USM exposed was Sumlin's foot already out there door. Don't get the hate on Keenum. He's a good kid, underrated and under the radar, unlike someone named Tebow. Yeah his numbers are inflated because of the spread offense and the, by and large, weaker competition. But he proved himself for the most part on the big stages. What he lacks in size and arm strength (which I also think is somewhat underrated) he makes up for with good decision making, calmness under pressure and intelligence. I hope both thrive here....though for Case I hope it's a little later than sooner...even if it's as a backup.
Not really, Keenum won't be on the team in a couple of years. There's a lot of homerism and bias in this forum about Keenum, understandably so because of UH. But, I've seen a good amount of posts that are getting carried away.
how about giving the guy a chance when that time comes? nobody knows. get off the college bias like what you said. he's on the texans and if you're a true fan, you root for our teamates.
I believe Kubiak sees himself in Keenum. Coach hung around as a backup to Elway for years, getting time when he could. I don't see Keenum as a starter, but he could have a reasonable future as a reliever.
I remember this game, pretty much everyone on UH played terrible except Keenum. Carrier dropped so many big potential play passes.
