When he is contractually obligated to play for the Magic, yes. He is making the organization and city that he has loved a national punchline and can be setting a very ugly precedent for stars in the future.

Cry me a river. This kind of thing has gone on LONG before Dwight.

Seems people around here are just butthurt because he doesn't want to play here, supposedly.

Well, get over it, not everybody loves the Rockets or Houston. And certainly no one is obligated to want to be here.

If he can get a max deal and go to the location of his choosing, more power to him. If he ends up here, I have no doubt he will be a professional about it and play hard and then explore free agency. What happens then, we'll find out. But I don't dislike someone for trying to do what is best for themselves.

I'm pretty sure we'd all feel the same way no matter which team/player was involved. Nobody wants to see players control the league.

This kind of thing hasn't happened before. The new CBA denies a max deal through S&T. This is the reason Dwight opted in.

I have zero problem with players controlling their own destiny and trying to maximize their situations.

Hating somebody for doing that is a waste of effort.

If Dwight pulls a T-Mac, I will have reason to hate him.

Bad guy, no. Dummy, yes. It's ok to want to have your cake and eat it too. But he probably should have realized that his current team wouldn't bend over to make that happen. If I can see that his preferred destinations don't have the assets to trade for him without help then he and his agent should be able to see that as well. You get your preferred team or you get your $$. He put $$ first and locked himself into a situation where he has minimal leverage when he could have had complete freedom. Lifes a biach.

We should just make it a 3 team deal for Bynum,we just give them less assets.

    LA gets: Dwiight,Duhon,Qrich
    Orl gets: Martin,Jones,White,Mcroberts,Tor pick
    Hou gets: Bynum,Jrich,Blake

Very well put. I'm all about player rights, within the system. The system is not set up to give the player his preferred team with full salary, unless the old team gets something in return for helping you get both. And his preferred choices don't offer much in return. So he made his choice, and he chose $$.

Yeah, how crazy that Rockets fans wouldn't like it if a player doesn't want to play here!

People could just as easily say to you that you should get over that people don't like him if he doesn't want to play here.

He bought himself more time, that's all.

The trade he wanted wasn't going to happen last year, so he opted in to see if it could happen this year. Simple.

If it doesn't, oh well. It was all done in his best interests and I can't fault him for it. He's been consistent about everything since he first said he wanted out. Send me to X or I'm leaving, if I am not sent to X, I will play out my contract and explore free agency.

Yeah, might as well shut down the BBS, since this is all pointless.

Pardon me for trying to talk people down off the cliff a little.

He hasn't been consistent because he opted in. That's a prime example of not being consistent. If you want to play for a team, and have the right to freely play for that team, and opt in knowing your team isn't interested in anything that team has via trade, then you are idiot that gets no sympathy. If your backup team also has nothing your team wants and this is known, then you are twice an idiot. Bought himself more time for what, to be told "we aren't trading you there" again?

It's fine to want it all. It's also fine to realize the odds of you getting it all probably won't happen due to your situation and your choices. The system is not set up to allow a player to have his choice AND max $$. Why do you keep ingoring that? Howard, feel free to try and continue to bully your way into having both. It doesn't appear that your old team cares, or potential teams that will trade for you (us).

Dwight is desperate and maybe a bit dim, but he hasn't done anything unethical. He'll get onboard with the Rockets when he is one. Right now he has no attachment or obligation to our franchise. If we do manage to pull off the trade and he's still making things a circus after the trade deadline, then is when I'll get annoyed.

I don't fault anyone for using whatever leverage is at their disposal, but Howard's actions do nothing to dispel the impression that he fully expects the system to operate according to his preferences — securing both max money and a choice of where he plays.

Again, he has every right to push for that; but demanding and expecting it is another thing. This is a messed up situation for the Orlando franchise, and their crappy management notwithstanding, it would be shortsighted to ignore Dwight's contribution to this circus. The overall perception of Howard as an entitled diva finds plenty of support in his behavior over the past couple of years.

Unlikely as his ultimate wish may be, I cannot fault him for trying. Which is what lots of people seem to be doing. He tried, and he'll probably fail. Oh well. He went through every possible means, which is what I and probably every other person in this thread would do. So, the vitriol seems silly. Have a little perspective. Once Dwight actually does something ethically wrong to the Rockets, he'll be on my s**t list. In the meantime, it's Orlando's problem and I hope we get the opportunity to find out if Dwight is a man of his word ("I will be professional and play out the end of my contract") and also whether he likes $30 million dollars more than he dislikes Houston.

That's why he said he would leave for Dallas.

Not sure if Dallas is a city on his Adidas incentive...

Dwight is just saying that because he knows the Rockets can trade for hime now. If it was Dallas that could trade for him he would say i dont want to go to Dallas, if Dallas Trades for me ill walk to Houston and Sign.. Dont you see this all BS.. Posturing to go to LA or Brooklyn. At the end of the day he will be sent to Houston, Hakeem will have a couple of beers with him and he will decide to stay... end of story...

    cool Story

Agreed. The man would rather play in New York City or Los Angeles. Who wouldn't? I'm sure he's rather annoyed of the fact that if it weren't for Houston's willingness to rent him, he'd possibly be a Laker or Net right now. Once he's here though and his options are to resign here or take a 30 million dollar deduction to his bank account to either sign in Dallas or freakin' Atlanta, he'll see the light. He's trying to scare Houston off so he can go to LA.
