I'd rather take a look at Braylon Edwards? He would fit nice next to AJ as second WR. Anyone knows what his injury status is at the moment?
If they are trying out all these receivers, it must mean the Texans were over stating how good Jean and Martin looked this summer. Nuts
I always thought Roy Williams was the perfect example of an insanely talented guy who got his knob slobbed over too much in college, got paid a boat load of money upfront, and just basically had no reason to bust his ass on the football field anymore. Same could be said for Vince.
Naw, even if the Jean and the rookies are collectively the next coming, thier still unproven outside of mini camp. Better safe than sorry.
It's a tryout. There are no obligations to him other than giving him a shirt to tryout in and allowing him in the practice facility. What's the harm in that? Maybe he's realized he can't coast anymore. Maybe he hasn't. Some of y'all act like he was just signed to a 10-year deal with $50 million guaranteed. Even if they are pleased with the tryout, he still has to win a spot in camp. If he makes the team, he's likely to get a minimum deal with little to no guaranteed money. Let us all not forget one other thing, TO was struggling in minor league indoor football. He is finished.
Don't read that much into it. They just need another guy who has actually played in the NFL before. You can't go into camp with only 2 WR's who have actually caught an NFL pass.
This. I'm not worried. More veteran experience would be nice. Having him in camp. See how he does. Vet minimum.
Roy and T.O. have serious case of the dropsies. But as said I don't have a problem trying out guys like him, Sims-Walker, and B. Johnson again. A guy with experience doesn't hurt when you don't have much depth at the wide out position besides rookies and practice squad members.
For all the knocks he's getting in this thread and by fans in general (deservedly so) Roy Williams is basically the same player as Kevin Walter, maybe better. He's considered one of the best blocking receivers in the game as well and a good special teams player.
It's amazing what expectations will do. Williams gets a lot of insults because he underachieves relative to his talent, but that doesn't make him a bad player.
I don't think Roy Williams has ever played special teams. But yeah I agree I think he might better than Kevin Walter but that isn't saying much.
You are probably right. I had the other Williams mixed up in my head for a moment. I don't know whether the receiver has played special teams. I am right that he's a good blocker though! He's also a better playmaker and a better red zone target. Walter has more reliable hands and is a harder worker, better route runner, but not enough to where he should be protected as a player by some of the same fans who are knocking Roy Williams. FWIW, I don't think EITHER of them is good enough to be a #2 receiver!
