Obviously the smart play would be for Morey to only have a Plan A and no Plan B, because a smart GM would already know exactly what Hennigan would do in his first moments on the job and how to convince a overgrown child who dresses up in superman costumes to re-sign in Houston instead of NYC. If you have to go to Plan B that means you are a failure because Plan A didn't work. So having a Plan B is basically planning for failure.
Great recap, and sorry to nitpick, but I believe that Chris Finch, one of our asst coaches, is the head coach of the British national team.
One thing I can take out of this is it seems Morey has not given up his pursuit of a blockbuster deal, regardless of the rookie contract situation. I wish this interview would have taken place after they signed their contracts, so the radio guys could have asked him whether or not we should read much into that.
he made an offer to bosh .. but was bosh going to go anywhere but wherever lebron went? no .. atleast he didnt panic like chicago or ny and give max contracts to players like boozer and amare moreys offer for dwight is similar to what boston gave up for garnet (rookies pick etc) but the other team has to bite like Minnesota did The thing i like best about morey is that he knows he needs to make a splash but he wont do it if it doesnt make sense .. he wont give max contracts to those that dont deserve it, he wont give orlando everything AND the kitchen sink so he can get dwight.... he realizes that one big splash is not enough if you dont have a team left. This is why you wont see us signing joe johnson and brooks lopezs of the world to max contract... these are good things
Just to be clear, we didn't have the cap space for Bosh. We attempted to entice him to request a sign and trade. If we had the cap space, it's possible that we could have ended up with a Boozer or Amar'e (I just vomited).
He's done some deals that I've liked and I've been happy with. Some not so much. He's not a bad GM, I'm just not ready to crown him a genius...yet.
I know this crazy, but is it possible, even too the smallest fraction, that there is a third catagory of Morey people? Black and white are great but there are these other shades in between. It's true! Go Rockets!
I think he is being sarcastic in reference to the comment that Morey is a failure for his plan A not working.
Thx. I disagree about the gortat vs asik thing and lin, asik getting more if they were free agents. When howard missed games in orlando, which wast a lot, gortat played very, very well. If after matching gortat, if orlando would've played him more, they would've gotten a lot more for gortat. They still got a decent haul for gortat and his minutes were in the tank, but as soon as he got to phoenix,he was balling. I don't see what international tape had to do with nba tape. Gortat is a much better player, but we can't do anything about it because he plays for suns. I understand the lowry part because of the guaranteed lotto pick. I don't get the dragic thing because I think he a guy who can be the started pg on a championship team. Now,they're a long way from that and he just made 26, so maybe they didn't want a 30 yr old pg. I agree about the minor league stuff. I've been saying that fo 10 yrs now.
I think he does now and he's providing an avenue by trading away some guys which is cool. We have to think of all jefferson as the country kid who couldn't control his eating habits. Then, he stayed healthy, played well, and was traded for garnett because of his upside. In morey last 2 drafts (do-nuts,lamb,white,and jones) has produced some guys with upside limited guys like patterson and even morris. I think when other gms see these type of guys, whether or not they reach their potential or not are inticing. That's what mchale saw in minny when he got green and jefferson for garnett. They were a lotto team with garnett 2 yrs running, might as well get some upside guys. Boston didn't want to give up jefferson at all. They were ready to roll with allen, pierce, rondo, jefferson and their other players. Morey finally has a jefferson type of talent.
