I could definitely see him walking.

On the other hand, Deron Williams, the hometown boy, passed on Dallas to return to Brooklyn, got his 5 year max deal, and said, 'I like you Dirk and all, but I'd rather play with Joe Johnson and Gerald Wallace.'

Now Houston is no Brooklyn but...

    I don't know.

Dwight will not walk. Right now Lakers are best situation that he can be traded to AND keep his money. If he's traded here, he will not leave 30 mill in Houston just to walk to Dallas. He knows he wouldn't do that, hence all the blown smoke. He wants his cake and to eat it too.

Which is why it's all coming from "sources close to Dwight Howard". I'll believe it when he appears on my TV and says it himself. He's maintaining deniability so that when he re-signs in Houston he can go, "I never said I would rather go to Dallas, those reports were false."

Exactly. What in the world would make it worth his while to go to Dallas? He'd be no closer to a title, if not possibly further away, not in a big media market (LA/NY), missing out on the Lin gravy train, and also losing 30 million dollars and an extra year on a contract. And what for? So he can play grab-ass with Mark Cuban? How is that ANY kind of incentive? I know the guy craps money onto his players, but jeez... this just reeks of agents BSing.

I agree that there is a chance that he may walk. But you have to take the risk given that there are not many opportunities out there for DH. I also would not work a 3-team trade between ORL/LAL/HOU.

DH is just saying that he will not go to HOU just to scare the management off so that he can get his preferred choice. Given the circumstance where he does get traded to HOU, I believe that he may change his tune as usual.

It doesn't matter what Dwight and his agents say right now, this is their last gasp before either being forced to deal with Houston or DH walking away from money. If there's still a chance, you have to take that chance. That is what ORL, HOU, LAL, BKN, and Dwight's camp are all doing.

Poker chess is not for the faint of heart.

(I still can't believe DAL hasn't made a serious play for Dwight yet this offseason. Dwight to DAL, Nowitzki to LAL, Bynum to HOU, stuff to ORL.)

Because Morey probably isn't even playing ball on a 3 way trade for Bynum so why would he play ball on a more complicated 4 way? Also, Dirk is probably going to retire a Mav. Too much sentimental value for them.

^"stuff" is less for Orlando if it's Bynum coming to Houston. That's why it has always been in Orlando's best interest to deal with us directly.

They have zero young assets to offer.

I dont. What GM's get to walk into a situation on day one where they have the best trade chip in the NBA that needs to be traded ASAP, and it gives you the ability to get great rebuilding value before your first season as an NBA GM.

I understand that he is working to try and maintain positive relationships with the agents involved and deal with a diva superstar, but any GM would probably tell you that they would rather have a diva superstar to deal with than a diva benchwarmer headcase. At least they can trade the Diva Superstar.

If Hennigan would have traded Dwight to Brooklyn then I think he would have been in the hotseat in 2 to 3 years. They probably only could have only gotten 1 bad contract off of the books, and nothing back but Lopez, and 3 crappy draft picks.

Whatever deal Hennigan gets for Dwight he will be judged 2 to 3 years from now. Right now, his sole purpose is to put this team in rebuild mode ASAP. Thats actually not as bad of a position to be in as one might think.

They have cap space next summer... Leverage???? I think so.

I dont think he ever really considered Dallas after this last season when he saw the decline of Dirk, and then when D-Will signed in Brooklyn.

He is using Cuban and the Mavs to force his way to LA right here and now. Thats completely obvious now.

I think Orlando thinks they have God in their possesion.

I think their best chance might have already passed them by.

I am curious what would be available next year, if the Rockets have all te draft picks and the majority of the young talent.

Spite, for one. The kind that's led to this 12-month long pissing match in Orlando.

Debatable. Unlike us, Cuban can say that the Mavs haven't missed the playoffs in 12 years. One championship, two Finals, three West Finals, seven semifinals. You may say that's in the past, but Morey's track record is spotty if you're trying to tell Howard you can get him the championships he wiffed on in Florida.

But a market that's much more prominent than we are on a national level. I don't think there's an ESPNHouston yet. Hell, check the latest Lin article and it takes you to ESPNNewYork. That's the standing Houston has.

The counter we can offer is the Asia gateway.

    Countered by Cuban's business connections.

There is the big hook. We saw him blink in February.

As much as we hate anything Dallas, I think you're not giving Cuban his due as an owner. He's got a lot of sway with players in the league.

Yeah and that sway helped him get Deron.

i'm certainly scared of Dwight bolting to Dallas. Dirk is still a player. But i also think Morey is probably being prudent with his offer, so it might be worth the risk. For me, it all depends on what we give up.

The only way Dwight would walk from any team would be if he walked from Orlando.

People who think Dwight Howard won't walk from Houston, have their heads buried in the sand.

Dwight Howard tried to file a grievance to let him out of his contract with Orlando, so he could sign outright with the Nets as a free agent.

There is nothing Morey can do to convince him to stay. He has his mind made up, which is why we should A) Let it go B) Offer simply draftpicks for Howard, nothing more. C) Trade for Bynum.

Only other team Deron talked to. I was surprised it didn't happen.

who gives a damn if he does not want to be traded to Houston.. If i was the Magic i would trade him to Houston for being an immature little kid. He can do whatever he wants after the season is over... Why would Magic GM even think about doing him any favors. I would trade him ASAP to the team he doesnt want to go
