I once ordered a GPS kit from Walmart online. They had it shipped to the store. I decided I didn't want it, so I didn't pick it up for like 2-3 weeks. They automatically refunded me my money even without having to contact customer service. Walmart online is legit.

I suspect this is a common attitude - but I bet when they actually run the numbers, after a few weeks/months of complaints, people won't even think about it and will continue shopping Amazon as always. It might make a bigger difference on big items when saying $100 in sales taxes was a real difference. But for the $10.00 item that is conveniently shipped to your door for free, I think people will forget about the $0.82 extra in the end and continue with Amazon.

You mean you didn't accept delivery of a package and the store took it back and gave you a refund?!?!?!

    Trailblazing customer service.

I ordered two things from Amazon last weekend and they didn't charge me sales tax (Houston resident)

    Strange...

Were they actually sold by Amazon or did it come from a 3rd party?

    3rd party.
I thought sales tax would be amazon-wide, including 3rd parties that use the service as a medium.

Only applies to Amazon.com warehouse shipments since they're actually from Amazon. Marketplace doesn't count.

The only time I have a $10 purchase from Amazon is when I forget to put something on another order. I probably spend more money at Amazon than any other store outside of Exxon and maybe the grocery store.

The one thing I do now is I comparison shop with other places online to see if I can get a better price than Amazon + taxes.

From what I recall third party sellers had to determine whether or not they had to charge tax or not. If it's sold by "Joe's T-Shirt Emporium", I think they have to determine if it's taxed or not. If it's sold by Amazon.com is when it's taxed.
